County Intermediate Football Championship, Round 2.

Laune Rangers 0-07, Templenoe 5-13.

Templenoe had a comprehensive win over Laune Rangers at JP O’Sullivan Park Killorglin, last Saturday evening. This result puts Templenoe in pole position going into the final round of group games next weekend.

The match was played in wet and windy conditions and while the home side had the aid of the very strong breeze in the first half, Laune Rangers failed to make this advantage count. Templenoe were in complete control of proceedings right from the start and goals from Sean Sheehan and Stephen O’Sullivan along with a point from play by Killian Spillane put the visitors 2-1 to 0-0 ahead after just four minutes of play. Patrick Clifford ventured up the field to extend Templenoe’s lead, before Laune Rangers finally got off the mark in the 17th minute with two points on the trot courtesy of John Tyther and Daire Cleary. Killian Spillane and Shane McSweeney swapped scores, before the former paved the way for John Rice to fire home Templenoe’s third goal. Laune Rangers simply had no answer to Templenoe’s aerial dominance and slick movement of the ball and further good play from the away side resulted in Teddy Doyle, Brian Crowley and Adrian Spillane all adding their names to the score sheet. The best that Laune Rangers could manage in the same period was a brilliantly pointed free from out near the sideline from Fiachra Clifford, for one of their few highlights in the whole game.

Half Time Score: Laune Rangers 0-04, Templenoe 3-06.

The second half saw more of the same from Templenoe and a superbly taken goal from Stephen O’Sullivan in the opening minutes of the half, signalled the away side’s intent to keep their foot on the pedal. Killian Spillane and Adrian Spillane traded scores with Shane McSweeney (2) and Fiachra Clifford to make the score 4-8 to 0-7 after 40 minutes of play. However, Laune Rangers would not register another score for the remainder of the contest. Instead, Templenoe pushed on with further scores from Killian Spillane and Brian Crowley, before Stephen O’Sullivan completed his hat trick with Templenoe’s fifth goal in the 52nd minute. The one sided nature of the contest enabled both sides to use to a full complement of subs, as Templenoe proceeded to sign off on their win with Teddy Doyle and Brian Crowley both adding to their tallies.
