Templenoe 0-13, Currow 0-10.

Templenoe eventually emerged victorious in a very high intensity match played on warm Sunday afternoon in Templenoe GAA Grounds.

Currow got off to a quick start and scored a point from their free taker Patrick McCarthy. A Teddy Doyle free for Templenoe was quickly replied with another Patrick McCarthy free, and Currow full forward Danny O’Shea extended their lead with a good point from play.

Two more points from Teddy Doyle left the score on the 10th minute, Templenoe 0-03, Currow 0-03.

Danny O’Shea was playing very well for the visitors, and added his 2nd point from play. Templenoe again responded when Currow goalie Shane O’Leary saved well from a Killian Spillane one on one effort, with the ref playing advantage at the time. Teddy Doyle again pointed the free.

Currow were utilizing their center forward as an extra sweeper during the half, and Templenoe were struggling to find space as a result in the forward line. Templenoe’s next two points came from turnovers after good work around midfield and the ball was quickly moved for 2 points by Brian Crowley.  John Spillane was introduced as a sub for the injured KIllian Spillane, and Currow reduced the deficit with a point.

Sean Sheehan worked a great goal chance but unfortunately hit the side netting. The next two scores came Templenoe’s way through a free and a 45’ from the boot of Teddy Doyle. Currow finished off the 1st half scoring with two impressive scores from Danny O’Shea to leave the score at the interval, Templenoe 0-08, Currow 0-07

Both teams struggled to score early in the 2nd half, and it took a point from Teddy Doyle on the 43rd minute to witness the first score. Currow started to utilize possession better, and through the influential Ian Sommers, they kicked the next three points to lead on a score of Templenoe 0-09, Currow 0-10 with ten minutes left in the match.

For the last ten minutes, Templenoe pushed hard for scores, and despite many attacks breaking down, leveled from a point by John Spillane. Laune Rangers 1-13, Templenoe 1-19

A large travelling support made the journey to Killorglin for the penultimate round of the County Senior Football League on a beautiful Saturday evening. With very little wind and a dry pitch, it was a perfect evening for football, with both teams having a lot to play for, Templenoe looking for promotion, and Laune Rangers hoping to avoid relegation.

Templenoe opened up a 2 point lead early on with points from Gavin Crowley and Shane Cremin before the ageless Mike Frank Russel opened the home teams scoring with a pointed free. The visitors were enjoying the better of the opening exchanges, and added on further points through Killian Spillane and Brian Crowley. Mike Frank Russell again replied for Laune Rangers and on the 15th minute, Templenoe led on a score of Laune Rangers 0-02, Templenoe 0-06. Templenoe’s 6th point was a great score from Brian Crowley as he kicked from distance while being fouled.

A resurgence from the home team over the next 10 minutes brought the difference between the teams to a point. The scores came from 2 Mike Frank Russel frees and a point from play by Shane O’Connor. Laune Rangers were operating with a sweeper and Templenoe were struggling with the situation for a while. Shane Cremin re-ignited the Templenoe attack when a long ball by him from midfield bounced straight over the bar without anyone touching it. Another Mike Frank Russell free followed, but the last three points of the half came Templenoe’s way leaving the half time score, Laune Rangers 0-06, Templenoe 0-10.

Templenoe extended their lead early in the 2nd half with two great points by Sean Sheehan. Corner back Mike Hallissey had to retire due to an injury and was replaced by Joey Sheehan. Mike Frank Russell pointed another free, but Killian Spillane replied again for Templenoe. Another Templenoe sub saw Stephen O’Sullivan come on for Josh Holland, and soon after, good battling by Danny Cahalane won the ball for Killian Spillane to point. Straight after, a poor short kick out resulted in a pointed free by Killian.

2 quick points from Laune Rangers left the score with 10 minutes remaining, Laune Rangers 0-09, Templenoe 0-15. The decisive moment of the match came from a swift Templenoe attack up the field involving, Teddy Doyle, Gavin Crowley and Sean Sheehan, released Adrian Spillane through on goal whose shot to the next extended Templenoe’s lead to 9 points.

Teddy Doyle kicked a lovely from the outside of his foot to cancel out a previous Laune Rangers point, but the last 10 minutes saw the home side come more into the game. They managed to reduce the arrears to 4 points through 3 points and a goal from corner forward, John O’Shea. Time was running out, and the last two scores of the match were pointed by Adrian Spillane and Teddy Doyle leaving Templenoe victorious on a score of Laune Rangers 1-13, Templenoe 1-19.

With a round of the County SFL, it is still possible that Templenoe could miss out on promotion, so is all comes down to a very important home match against Gneevguilla in November.

Templenoe 1-18, Tarbert 5-02

Templenoe posted an impressive score of 1-18 in the Div2 County Senior Football League back game, and still never pulled clear of Tarbert throughout the match. This was due to a series of goals that kept Tarbert interested in the match all the way.

This match was played in a neutral venue in Ballymacelligot GAA grounds on a damp enough evening. Killian Spillane kicked the first score of the match, but events swung Tarbert’s way in a short two minute spell when they got two quick goals resulting from long passes into their full forward, Donal Leahy.

Templenoe didn’t panic and started to pick off scores through Teddy Doyle and Brian Crowley, but Tarbert responded through their only point of the half. Teddy Doyle added another score from a free, but on the 18th minute Templenoe were rocked again when a run from midfield saw a Tarbert shot rocket to the net to leave the scores, Templenoe 0-04, Tarbert 3-01.

Templenoe again dusted themselves off and continued to score points from Teddy Doyle and Killian Spillane. The Templenoe midfield were doing very well at this point and were picking up all the breaks, but followed up with a series of disappointing wides. There was still time for Templenoe to kick five more points in the half from the boots of Teddy Doyle, Josh Holland, Patrick Clifford, Killian Spillane and Sean Sheehan. The half time whistle saw Templenoe with a slender lead of a point after dominating most of the 1st half.

Templenoe continued their 1st half form into the 2nd half, but still kicked some poor wides. Shane Cremin and Brian Crowley extended their lead, and Templenoe looked to have secured the league points when Pat Spillane kicked a well worked goal. This was on the 42nd minute and Templenoe led on a score of Templenoe 1-13, Tarbert 3-01

On the 45th minute, Tarbert again responded with another goal from a long ball. Templenoe again answered with a pointed free from Killian Spillane, but their next few attacks yielded no scores with some poor shot selection. Gavin Crowley steadied the nerves with a point which Tarbert replied to with a pointed free. Another Killian Spillane free on the 57th minute should have seen Templenoe safe but unfortunately a spilled ball in the Templenoe square resulted in Tarbert’s 5th goal leaving two points of a difference between the two teams.

This proved to be Tarbert’s last score and Templenoe finished out the match with a free from Killian Spillane and a punched point from Patrick Clifford leaving Templenoe winners on a score of Templenoe 1-18, Tarbert 5-02

Templenoe Scorers: Killian Spillane 0-06, Teddy Doyle 0-04, Pat Spillane 1-00, Brian Crowley 0-02, Patrick Clifford 0-02, Gavin Crowley 0-01, Josh Holland 0-01, Sean Sheehan 0-01, Shane Cremin 0-01

Templenoe 2-14, Firies 0-14

This was a very good and open match played in ideal conditions for football in Beaufort GAA Grounds. Both teams held periods of control over the sixty minutes, and the final scoreline does not do justice to how hard Templenoe had to fight to emerge victorious in this County Junior semi-final.

Templenoe opened very brightly and by the 12th minute had opened up a Templenoe 0-04, Firies 0-01 lead through scores from Killian Spillane (3) and Stephen O’Sullivan. Firies came storming back into proceedings, and the next 15 minutes saw them kick five unanswered points from the boot of Colm O’Shea (2), William Courtney and Padraig De Bruin (2).

Templenoe were not playing well, but good running from Brian Crowley was rewarded with a pointed free. Soon after, the Firies centre back, James O’Donoghue was dismissed with a black card. Templenoe got the final score of the half with another pointed free from Killian Spillane.

The opening point of the 2nd half was a pointed free by Colm O’Shea. Killian Spillane responded with another free, and soon after, good work by Teddy Doyle set Sean Sheehan up for the first of his four points of the 2nd half. Firies again responded with a brace of points, leaving the score on the 40th minute, Templenoe 0-08, Firies 0-09.

A fast ball into Killian Spillane saw him isolated in a good position running at goal. Killian drew the defender and passed the ball across the square for Brian Crowley to palm to the back of the net for a very important Templenoe goal. This gave Templenoe great confidence, and they pushed on kicking the next three points from Brian Crowley and Sean Sheehan (2).

With ten minutes left in the contest, Templenoe led on a score of Templenoe 1-11, Firies 0-09. Firies were not finished yet, and two quick pointed frees from Colm O’Shea left a goal in the difference. Soon after Colm O’Shea pointed well from play, but this was cancelled out by another Sean Sheehan point.

Again Firies reduced the margin to two points with another pointed free, but Templenoe finally found some breathing space when a swift attack found Adrian Spillane who rifled the ball home to the back of the net. The last three points of the match came Templenoe’s way to put an unfair reflection on the score. Templenoe 2-14, Firies 0-14
