Beaufort 1-08, Templenoe 0-13
On a perfect Friday evening for football, Templenoe travelled to Beaufort and came away with the spoils after a hard-fought win.
Beaufort, who were missing several regulars, started very well and had registered two points in the opening five minutes. Unfortunately, from the home side’s point of view, this period also saw them kick two poor wide’s which was to become a hallmark of their display during the match.
Adrian Spillane registered Templenoe’s first score on the sixth minute which was cancelled out by a Nathan Breen point soon afterwards. Beaufort had two calls for penalties in this period ignored, and from the fifteenth minute onwards Templenoe started to come more into the contest. Three points in the space of five minutes from Adrian Spillane, Killian Spillane and Stephen O’Sullivan had Templenoe in front on the twenty-minute Mark. Pat Spillane had a glorious opportunity going through on goal but narrowly missed the target. Templenoe were also contributing to the wide tally of the match and just added one more point in the half from a Killian Spillane free. Just before the interval, Beaufort goalkeeper, Mike Moriarty made a great save from a Pat Spillane shot to leave the half time score, Beaufort 0-03, Templenoe 0-05.
The home side started the second half in a positive fashion and turned over Templenoe possession on several occasions. Crucially they only scored one point in this purple patch when Nathan Breen pointed. Templenoe rallied and a hat trick of points from Killian Spillane (1 free) in the space of three minutes had the visitors extend their advantage. Beaufort kept trying but their wide total was mounting up while Danny Cahalane and Brian Crowley kicked further points.
Templenoe were leading on a score of Beaufort 0-04, Templenoe 0-10 on the 47th minute and seemed to be comfortable. Beaufort heads hadn’t dropped though, and a Fergal Hallissey point was followed up by the only goal of the match when Jeremiah O’Sullivan added to the flight of a high ball around the square, which finished in the net. Beaufort were energized by this and followed up with a further series of attacks. Ian McGillicuddy and Nathan Breen pointed, but they continued to be wasteful with other opportunities.
The teams were level with five minutes to go when Killian Spillane again pointed for Templenoe. Attacks were swapping from end to end but the defenses were winning out as nerves began to increase. Cian Hallissey who was on as a sub found himself at the end of a sweeping Templenoe move but elected to fist a point when a goal opportunity was on offer. This brought the match into injury time where Cian Hallissey pointed a free. There was just enough time for one desperate Beaufort attack which resulted in Jonathan Kissane point.
The final whistle sounded leaving Templenoe victorious on a score of Beaufort 1-08, Templenoe 0-13
