Templenoe / Tuosist 0 – 16        John Mitchels 1 – 21

Templenoe lost out to a very well drilled John Mitchels side in the last round of the Division 1 County Minor League on Saturday evening.

John Mitchels scored the first point of the match, but Templenoe enjoyed the best of the early exchanges, scoring the next three points from play. Mitchels started to get the better in midfield and soon levelled the scoring at three points a piece, before a point from Denis O’Neill, putting Templenoe a point ahead after ten minutes.

The next ten minutes saw Mitchels score 0 – 7 to a solitary point scored by Niall O’Sullivan. At this point Cian Hallissey was brought out centre forward to help in the midfield battle. Mitchels got the next score before a series of wides by Templenoe was finished with a pointed free by Cian Hallissey. Templenoe were doing alright at this stage and a pointed free by Mitchels was cancelled out by a point from Denis O’Neill. The last three points of the half were scored by John Mitchels leaving the half time score Templenoe 0 – 7, John Mitchells 0 – 15.

The second half opened with a wide by Templenoe followed by a goal by Mitchels which came from a turnover in the Templenoe half back line. Brian Crowley pointed a free before Cillian Spillane did well to score a point, that with a bit of luck could have been a goal a few seconds earlier. All the while Templenoes best efforts were been kept in check by the occasional point by the very impressive Mitchels attack. Two quick points by Brian Crowley were cancelled out by two by Mitchels leaving the score with fifteen minutes left at Templenoe 0 – 11, Mitchells 1 – 18.

With time running out Templenoe worked a few good goal chances but unfortunately none of them worked out successfully. Without a goal there was too much work for Templenoe to do and two points by Brian Crowley and Denis O’Neill were pegged back by another Mitchels point. Brian Crowley scored the last Templenoe point of the game before Mitchells added the last to leave the final score at Templenoe 0 - 16, John Mitchels 1 – 21.

Overall the John Mitchells team played very well and kicked very few wides, The goal at the beginning of the second half helped keep Mitchells out of reach of any Templenoe comeback. Over the course of the sixty minutes Templenoe had their goal chances also but never took any.
