Kenmare got the better of South Kerry in an entertaining game played before a large crowd in Templenoe on Tuesday evening.
South Kerry opened the scoring with two points, before Cian Hallissey replyed with a free. The next score went to South Kerry to leave the early score Kenmare 0-01, South Kerry 0-03.
Two further points from the boot of Cian Hallissey were then cancelled by two more South Kerry points.
Brian Crowley hit a fine point from play. This was followed by the first Kenmare goal, where Cian Hallissey fielded a ball and crashed it to the back of the South Kerry net.
South Kerry got the last point of the half to leave the score at Kenmare 1-04, South Kerry 0-06.
Kenmare increased their lead in the second half with points from Adrian Spillane and Kevin O'Sullivan. The following score went to South Kerry, but was cancelled out by another point from Adrian Spillane, leaving a goal in the difference.
South Kerry then reduced the deficit to two points before a good move by Kenmare saw Niall O'Sullivan cut through for a superb goal. This was followed by a free from Cian Hallissey. South Kerry replied with a point to leave the scores at Kenmare 2-08, South Kerry 0-09 going into the last quarter of the match.
In the last quarter, Kenmare kept on the pressure with scores from Cian Hallissey and Adrian Spillane..
South Kerry tried hard for a goal towards the end of the game, but Kenmare defended very well. The did win a penalty which was brillantly saved from Kenmare goalie Kieran Fitzgibbon. South Kerry did follow up with a point, but Adrian Spillane got the last score of the match leaving the final score Kenmare district 2-11, South Kerry 0-10.
