Templenoe were looking comfortable with 15 minutes to go, but a quick move down the field resulted in a penalty which was duly dispatched to the net by Waterville. The last few moments resulted in some heroic defending by Templenoe as Waterville pressed to get a goal. They eventually tapped over a free in the dying seconds, to leave a single point in the difference, but time had ran out and the ref blew for full time on the next kickout.

CHAMPIONS!!!!!

Report taken from the Kerryman.

A three goal first half blitz was enough to give Templenoe the County Junior League Division 6 title last Friday evening in Sneem after a cracking contest with Waterville

Ogie Sheehy, Timmy and Padraig O Sullivan scored the vital goals for the Kenmare District side as Timmy Clifford managed to score two points to ensure a half time lead of 3-02 to 1-06.

Shane Curran scored the South Kerry side’s first half goal with Cormac and Eoin O Sullivan causing the Templenoe defence plenty of problems in the first half.

Templenoe stretched their lead out to four points in the second half however the game was thrown right back in the balance when Waterville were awarded a penalty after a foul on Cormac O Sullivan and Donnacha Fenton converted to reduce the margin to a slender point.

Crucially though they never drew level with the opposition as Timmy Clifford’s final point proved to be the insurance score for Templenoe as Waterville wasted a number of good opportunities and had shouts for second penalty late on

Cormac O Sullivan’s final point left the bare minimum between the two sides at the final whistle on a night where Tommy Granville, Mike Jones, Donal Casey and Denis O Neill shone for the winning side.
