Scartaglin 1-6, Templenoe 0-6
A goal early in the second half by Scartaglin corner forward Tom Boyle proved decisive in a low scoring game played before a large crowd in Glenflesk last Saturday evening.
Templenoe opened the scoring through Danny Cahalane, who landed a great point from over 30 yards after 2 minutes. This was followed with a point from Adrian Spillane, who slotted over a free from the ground. Cian Hallissey made it 0-3 to 0-0 after he was fouled in the 17th minute. Scartaglin opened their account in the 19th minute when Denis Lenihan put over a free after Tom Boyle was fouled. Gavin Crowley replied for Templenoe with point from the right wing, after good work from Donal O'Sullivan Casey and Shane Cremin. Scartaglin then earned another free from Pa Rahilly as he attempted to run through the Templenoe defence, this was converted by Denis Lenihan. Templenoe almost extended their lead further when a shot for goal by Adrian Spillane went narrowly wide. However, Scartaglin went on to put a point between the sides with their goalie Martin Hewitt confidently drilled a 45 over the bar. Then with half time approaching Padraig Reidy set up an attack which ended in a free and Denis Lenihan again put over, leaving the half time score Templenoe 0-4 Scartaglin 0-4.
The second half was only a minute old, when Scartaglin's Tom Boyle got their first point from play. Then 2 minutes later came the all important goal from the same player, after a good delivery from midfielder Tim Coakley. Both teams subsequently found scores hard to come by as conditions got slippery. Templenoe sub John Rice did manage to hit the target from play midway through the second half, but this was cancelled out by a well stuck free from Denis Lenihan. Templenoe tried hard for a goal, but could not get through a watertite Scartaglin defence. With time almost up Denis O'Neill had a point for Templenoe, but Scartaglin held on to reach the final of the Novice Championship.
