Kenmare District 2-16, Mid Kerry 1-11
The Kenmare District outscored Mid Kerry in an entertaining match played in good conditions in Templenoe before a large crowd.
Although there was an eight point gap at the end, the match was tight throughout, with the Kenmare District pulling away in the last five minutes.
Mid Kerry opened the scoring with a point from their captain Jack O’Connor. The Kenmare district replied through points from Brian Crowley and John Rice. Jack O’Connor responded to level up the scores at two points apiece. Both teams matched their scoring point for point over the next ten minutes before Brian Crowley was hauled down in the square. Brian took the resulting penalty and drilled a good low shot to open a bit of daylight between the teams.
Mid Kerry responded well to this setback, and notched up the next two scores through Padraig Doona and Ronan Murphy. With a point in the difference, the next two scores came the Kenmare Districts way. Brian Crowley and John Rice were again the scorers. With half time approaching both teams again swapped points leaving the half time score, Kenmare District 1-07, Mid Kerry 0-07. The penalty being the only difference between the sides.
Killian Spillane opened the 2nd half scoring with a point, but Mid Kerry worked a goal opportunity, only for Kenmare District goalie, Martin McCarthy to make a good save resulting in a point. Mid Kerry reduced the deficit to two points before a leg block in the Kenmare District square gave Mid Kerry a penalty. Jack O’Connor struck a good shot to give Mid Kerry the lead.
With twenty minutes left in the match, Killian Spillane levelled the match with a free. Kenmare hit a purple patch and picked off scores through, John Rice, Brian Crowley and Denis O’Neill (2). Devon Flaherty responded for Mid Kerry but a good Kenmare District move put John Rice through who finished well to the roof of the Mid Kerry net. The away team responded with a point but the last two points of the match went the Kenmare district’s way, leaving the final score, Kenmare District 2-16, Mid Kerry 1-11.
