Dingle 1-09, Templenoe/Tuosist 2-07

A goal six minutes into injury time by Johnny Breen gave Templenoe/Tuosist victory over Dingle in Austin Stack Park on Friday night.

The match was played under lights in damp weather, but with good underfoot conditions. Dingle opened the scoring before Stephen O Sullivan cut in for the equalizer. Dingle took over for a while and kicked over three points from play and frees putting them up by 0-04 to 0-01. The next attack saw Templenoe/Tuosist work the ball up the field and Pat Clifford landed a point under pressure. Dingle nearly got in for a goal only for some superb goalkeeping by Richard Palmer. Just before half time Patrick Clifford got injured and he was a huge loss to Templenoe/Tuosist. Dingle added a point to leave the half time score Dingle 0-05, Templenoe/Tuosist 0-02.

Brian Crowley reduced the margin with a point before a great move saw the same player dragged down as he went in on goal. Brian expertly dispatched the spot kick to put a point in the game 1-03, 0-05. Dingle responded with two points to restore their lead. With about 10 minutes left John Rice had the team level again when he drilled over a loose ball from the ground. A free from Killian Spillane from near the sideline was followed by a neat Denis O Neill score who slotted over after a good team move, putting Templenoe/Tuosist in front by 1-06 to 0-07.

Dingle didn’t give up and a fine long range effort from their midfielder was followed soon after with another point tying the game at 1-06 to 0-09. With time almost up Dingle launched another attack as they sent in a dangerous ball into the square. The ball broke and Dingle reacted fastest and sent the ball to the back of the net putting them up by 1-09 to 1-06. Both sides exchanged wides before a well struck free by Killian Spillane reduced the margin to two. Then came the move, deep into injury time which saw Johnny Breen fire the ball to the roof of the Dingle net for a brilliant goal.

After the game the Division 2 league trophy was presented to Gavin Crowley and the man of the match was awarded to Stephen O Sullivan.
