Annascaul 0-09, Templenoe 3-11.
Templenoe seniors made the long trip to Annascaul on Sunday and came away from Paddy Kennedy Park with a full share of the spoils following an eleven points win over the hosts.
The game was played in ideal conditions and Templenoe had the aid of a strong wind for the first half. However, it was the West Kerry outfit that opened the scoring with their midfielder Eamonn Hickson finding the range. Templenoe responded with Brian Crowley making space to allow him pop over the visitors first score. Jason Hickson who was unerring from placed balls throughout, slotted over 2 frees for Annascaul either side of contributions from Denis O’Neill and Patrick Clifford for Templenoe. Not to be outdone, Templenoe’s other wing back John Rice then got up the field to prove his scoring credentials. This made the score Annascaul 0-03, Templenoe 0-04 at the first water break.
It was in the second quarter that the game really started to turn in Templenoe’s favour, with the away side outscoring the hosts by 0-00 to 1-03 in this period. Indeed Templenoe could even have got more, only for them to over hit some of their kick passes causing the ball to get carried by the breeze and tail off over the end line. A pointed free from Colin Crowley preceded the first goal of the game, which came about when Brian Crowley showed good vision to pick out the unmarked Josh Crowley Holland who unselfishly passed the ball across the square to the in-running Martin Reilly to palm the ball to the net. This put Templenoe firmly in the driving seat, from which they never looked back. Further points followed from Teddy Doyle and Josh Crowley Holland.
Half Time Score: Annascaul 0-03, Templenoe 1-07.
On resumption and despite the prospect of playing against the breeze, Templenoe were in no mood to ease their foot off the pedal. The visitors hit 1-02 in quick succession to kill off this game as a contest, with John Spillane who made his entrance at half time and Teddy Doyle the points providers, and it was Colin Crowley who netted Templenoe’s second goal of the day. Jason Hickson scored two points on the trot to give Annuscaul some badly needed respite, before Teddy Doyle landed a free over the bar to make the score Annascaul 0-05, Templenoe 2-10 going into the second half water break.
The final quarter saw Templenoe’s Josh Crowley Holland dispatch his second County league goal in as many games and soon after they consolidated their position with Colin Crowley raising their final white flag of the afternoon. Annascaul did finish out the game with 4 unanswered points courtesy of their marksman Jason Hickson, which merely put more respect on the scoreboard.
Templenoe have now made it 2 wins out of 2 to set up an intriguing top of the table clash away to Gneeveguilla in a fortnight’s time.
