Templenoe suffered their first county league defeat of the year away to Fossa on Sunday. A goal in each half for the hosts proved to be the difference.
The game was played in dry conditions for the most part with a cross field breeze. The opening 20 minutes of the contest was a very cagey affair with scores hard to come by. It took 8 minutes for the opening score to come with Fossa’s Tadhg O’Shea the provider, but it wasn’t until the last 10 minutes of the first half. that the game finally started to ignite. Emmett O’Shea doubled Fossa’s lead with a free and then soon after Matt Rennie got in for their first goal when he finished the ball to the net from close range. Matters got worse for Templenoe when Tadhg O’Shea converted a placed ball to give them a six points cushion with 26 minutes on the clock.
Templenoe couldn’t buy a score or so it seemed. But credit to the visitors they finished the first half strongly with Colin Crowley breaking their scoring deadlock after all of 27 minutes, with a point from play before he subsequently added another from a 45. In between Kieran O’Sullivan exchanged scores with Sean Sheehan to leave four points between the sides at the interval.

Templenoe almost got the second half off to the perfect start when Sean Sheehan hit a dangerous ball in towards the Fossa goal., but it was diverted out for a 45. However, Fossa extended their lead back to five points with their next attack courtesy of Killian Buckley. Then Templenoe hit a bit of a purple patch getting four of the next five points in this encounter with Kieran McCarthy (2), Colin Crowley after he skillfully won a mark and corner back Michael Hallissey all chipping in. Fossa’s sole score in this period came from the boot of Tadhg O’Shea. This made the score 1-06 to 0-07 after 41 minutes of play.
Ruairi Doyle and Harry Buckley steadied the ship for the hosts with two unanswered points to precede the killer blow when a high ball in towards the square was deflected to the net by Fossa substitute Fintan Coffey. This put the hosts 2-08 to 0-07 ahead with 14 minutes remaining. Templenoe fought to the end, but never really looked like raising a much-needed green flag to bring them back into this contest. The visitors last three scores came from Brian Crowley (2) and Colin Crowley with a converted free, while Fossa signed off on their win with points from Harry Buckley and Paddy Sheehan.
