County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 8.

Templenoe 0-10, Glenbeigh-Glencar 1-11.

Templenoe hosted Glenbeigh-Glencar in round 8 of the county league last Sunday. A below par display by Templenoe saw them lose out to Glenbeigh-Glencar who gave a more assured performance on the day.

Templenoe had wind advantage for the first half and had an okay first quarter to lead by 0-03 to 0-01, with Brian Crowley from an acute angle, Martin Reilly and Colin Crowley (f) all contributing, while Glenbeigh-Glencar had their opening score from Keilen O’Sullivan. Then the visitors went level with two points on the trot – one through Colin McGillycuddy from a mark before Keilen O’Sullivan added his second point from play. Colin Crowley edged Templenoe ahead again with another placed ball in the 21st minute, but that would be Templenoe’s last score for the remainder of the first half. Templenoe did have chances to add to their tally, but they were inclined to cough up possession which was a bit of a feature throughout the game and they also hit a few wides. In contrast, the visitors were more cohesive and made better use of their possession when on the offensive to manufacture four more points before the break with Darran O’Sullivan proving he still had plenty in his locker and Liam Smith among their scorers.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-04, Glenbeigh-Glencar 0-07

On resumption, Colin Crowley slotted over another free for the hosts, but Glenbeigh replied with a sucker punch after they burst up the field in well worked team move involving Jack Brosnan and Darran O’Sullivan who passed across the square for Caolim Teahan to palm home for a simple finish. This extended the margin to five points but there was plenty of time for Templenoe to launch a fight back and in fairness to the hosts they did rally. Three points on the bounce from Daniel Crowley, Brian Crowley and Colin Crowley (f) saw Templenoe reduce the deficit to two points with the score reading 0-08 to 1-07 after 49 minutes of play. However, that was as close as Templenoe could get. Darran O’Sullivan put a bit of daylight between sides again soon after with two points in quick succession. Templenoe didn’t let Glenbeigh out of sight and stayed in touch with two Colin Crowley points either side of points from Rian O’Donovan and Caolim Teahan, but what the hosts really needed at that stage to rescue this game was a green flag and they just couldn’t pull it off.

Final Score: Templenoe 0-10, Glenbeigh-Glencar 1-11.
