Templenoe narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot after Mid Kerry finished the stronger to reach the last four of this year’s county championship with just two points to spare. Templenoe, though still have the club championship final to look forward to and despite coming up short will take plenty of positives out of this contest.

The game was played in a wet Fitzgerald stadium last Sunday and Templenoe were dealt the first blow, when it was announced beforehand that Captain Gavin Crowley would not be lining out due to injury. Eanna O’Connor opened the scoring with a free, before adding a 45 shortly after, with Mid Kerry dominating the early exchanges. Brian Crowley split the posts with Templenoe’s first attack five minutes in to get them off the mark. However, Mid Kerry remained in control and hit the next three points without reply to push them 0-01 to 0-05 ahead by the 18^th minute, with Keith Evans, Darren Houlihan and Kieran Dennehy all contributing. To their credit, Templenoe regrouped and came back strongly with Patrick Clifford, Stephen O’Sullivan (2) and Tadhg Morley with his left boot all hitting the target to bring them right back into this contest and tie the scores at 5 points apiece. But Mid Kerry had the last say in the first half with the ever reliable Eanna O’Connor converting a placed ball to give them a slender lead at the break.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-05, Mid Kerry 0-06.

Templenoe went on another scoring spree just after the restart with Tadhg Morley from his right boot this time, before Killian Spillane (2f) and Adrian Spillane put them three points to the good and complete a seven points turnaround by the 57^th minute. The score was now 0-09 to 0-06, Templenoe were motoring well at this stage and were unlucky not to add a further point when a long range effort from Stephen O’Sullivan dropped just short of going over the crossbar. The Mid Kerry management were reading the warning signs and reacted first by introducing Jack O’Connor at half time, then in the third quarter they brought in Gearoid Hassett and Ronan Murphy to try and stem the tide. Jack O’Connor and Fiachra Clifford raised two white flags for Mid Kerry, to reduce the margin to the minimum before Templenoe’s Colin Crowley showed good skill to evade the challenges of the defenders to make the score 0-10 to 0-08 after 45 minutes. However, the final quarter belonged to Mid Kerry, who outscored Templenoe by five points to one to swing the contest in their favour. Darren Houlihan and Fiachra Clifford impressed with two points each in this crucial period, while their other score came from Liam Carey. Aidan Crowley did put over an excellent free for Templenoe in between and in fairness, Templenoe fought bravely to the end with even keeper Mark looney joining the attack in search of a late goal, but Mid Kerry were not to be denied and held on for a two points win.

Templenoe 0-10, Feale Rangers 1-14.

Despite losing out to an in form Feale Rangers by seven points, Templenoe are through to the County Championship quarter-final for the third year in a row, by virtue of South Kerry drawing with St Brendans in the other group match. A late Nathan O’Driscoll free for St Brendans was enough to draw that game and render the Templenoe, Feale Rangers result immaterial.

A large crowd came out to watch this round 3 game, which was played in dry conditions in Templenoe last Sunday. The hosts who took to the field without the services of Mark Looney, Patrick Clifford, Colin Crowley and Stephen O’Sullivan due to injury, held their own in the first half, until Feale Rangers Barry Mahony struck the game’s only goal shortly before the half time whistle. Aidan Crowley opened the scoring after he landed a 45 over the bar. Then Feale Rangers hit back with the next three scores on the trot courtesy of David Keane (f), Shane Stack and Sean Keane to give them the lead, which they would never surrender. Killian Spillane pulled one back for Templenoe, before Bryan Sweeney and Barry Mahony both split the posts to make the score 0-02 to 0-05 by the 15^th minute. The Spillane brothers, Adrian and Killian then linked up well, with the latter firing over two more scores, one of which was nearly a goal to reduce the margin to the minimum. Soon after opposing defenders Eddie Browne and Gavin Crowley traded scores, before Killian Spillane saw his goal bound shot denied by the visitor’s keeper Cathal Keane. A turnover by Feale Rangers inside their own half set up a counter attack that ultimately put Barry Mahony through one on one with Templenoe keeper Colm Breen and Mahony made no mistake with the finish. This put a bit of daylight between the sides, although credit to Templenoe they did reply with an Aidan Crowley point from play immediately after.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-06, Feale Rangers 1-06.

At the restart, Feale Rangers hit the ground running with a brace of points from Conor O’Keeffe and Martin Stack (2) to double their lead to six points. However, Templenoe responded in kind with county players Gavin Crowley, Adrian and Killian Spillane all stepping up to the plate with a point each to keep the hosts well in this game. Feale Rangers did have the upper hand throughout the contest, but at this stage it looked liked the game might be heading for a close finish, especially after Martin Stack and Aidan Crowley exchanged frees to make it 0-10 to 1-10 with 49 minutes played. Feale Rangers though had other ideas and pushed on to score the last four points of the game without reply from Cillian Trant, Barry Mahony and Martin Stack (2) to maintain their 100% record in the competition. To add to Templenoe’s woes they lost Adrian Spillane to injury late on. Yet, with news filtering through from Caherciveen that South Kerry could only manage a draw, Templenoe had already done enough in the earlier rounds to secure a quarter-final spot, which means Templenoe  have so far managed to reach the last eight in the County Championship every year since the club’s promotion to senior grade.

St Brendans 1-12, Templenoe 3-07.

Templenoe just about held on for a big win on the road against St Brendans in Ardfert last Saturday evening. This result put Templenoe in with a good chance of reaching the County Championship quarter-final stage for the third year running. Templenoe are now six games unbeaten since the beginning of August and next weekend will host Feale Rangers in what  will be Templenoe’s first ever County Championship game at home venue.

The weather conditions were perfect and a big crowd was in attendance to witness this Round 2 tie. Ivan Parker opened the scoring with a pointed free five minutes in, but both sides were misfiring throughout the first half with scores hard to come by. Indeed, it took Templenoe twelve minutes to register their first score courtesy of a Killian Spillane free. The visitors had chances to go in front immediately after, but failed to take the opportunities presented. St Brendans make Templenoe pay with the next three scores on the trot from Nathan O’Driscoll, Robert Monaghan and Alan O’Donoughue to make it 0-04 to 0-01 after nineteen minutes. St Brendans did look the more the dangerous going forward at this stage, but the Templenoe defence led by Tadhg Morley in particular were playing a very effective game at keeping their opponents at bay for the most part. While at the other end the St Brendans defence were also having much success and managed to keep Templenoe scoreless from play in the first half. Stephen O’Sullivan bagged a much needed free for the Templenoe in the 22^nd Minute, before Robert Monaghan and Killian Spillane exchanged points, to leave the hosts going in two points to the good at half time.

Half Time Score: St Brendans 0-05, Templenoe 0-03.

Templenoe opted to remain on the field for their half time discussion and whatever got said at the break, appeared to work with a magical first six minutes to the second half for the visitors. It all started with Patrick Clifford clinically dispatching the ball to the net, after he found himself one on one with the keeper, following good build up play from Tadhg Morley and Danny Cahalane. Then Stephen O’Sullivan did brilliant to fist home a high ball in from Danny Cahalane, before he added his second (Templenoe’s third) goal from close range with Danny Cahalane once again involved. Soon after Stephen O’Sullivan converted a placed ball to open up an eight points gap with the scoreboard reading 0-05 to 3-04 with 39 minutes played. St Brendan were left with a steep mountain to climb, but climb it their very nearly did. Former Kerry senior panellist David O’Callaghan and Daithi Griffin started the comeback with two well taken points. Danny Cahalane responded by cleverly swinging his hand to a ball that was dropping short from an Aidan Crowley free to restore Templenoe’s lead to seven. However, St Brendans were now taking control and hit the next five points on the trot, with Daithi Griffin (2), Robert Monaghan (2) and Alan O’Donoghue all contributing,  to reduce the margin to just two points by the 58^th minute and they also had a goal chance stopped on the line, the score was now 0-12 to 3-05. Somewhat similar to the previous week against South Kerry, Templenoe were very much on the back foot and struggling to lift the siege. But Aidan Crowley did help settle the nerves with two huge frees from distance to give the visitors a four points lead with almost up. St Brendans were not finished though and the game took one final twist, with Joe Lenihan burying the ball to the net to put the bare minimum between the sides three minutes into injury time. The last kick out went Templenoe’s way and they held onto it for dear life to secure another big win for the club.

The first ever meeting between neighbours Templenoe and South Kerry in the County Championship ended in a draw at Fitzgerald Stadium last Sunday. Templenoe looked to be cruising with a six points lead at the end of the third quarter, however South Kerry dug deep and outscored Templenoe by seven points to one in the remaining fifteen minutes for a deserved share of the spoils.

The opening 10 minutes was a cagey enough affair with neither side really imposing their will on the game. Darragh O’Sullivan planted a 45 over the bar against the breeze, although conditions were drier than expected. Soon after Templenoe were forced to make an early substitution, with Michael Hallissey having to retire injured to be replaced by Tom Spillane. It took 11 minutes for Templenoe to open their account, with Killian Spillane firing over from play with his left boot, before following this up with a pointed free from his right boot two minutes later. Colin Crowley then hit a fine score from distance to extend Templenoe’s lead. South Kerry responded in kind with Daniel Daly from play and Darragh O’Sullivan with an impressive free from over 45 yards to tie the scores again after 21 minutes. The remainder of the first half was tit for tat, Killian Spillane briefly restored Templenoe’s one point advantage with a placed ball, but Daniel Daly countered with a free for South Kerry. Then shortly before the half time whistle Killian Spillane edged Templenoe in front once more, but this was also cancelled out, this time by his County team mate Graham O’Sullivan who raced up the field to grab a well taken point.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-05, South Kerry 0-05.

The second half was a more open contest. Tadhg Morley and Stephen O’Sullivan traded scores with Dylan O’Donoghue and Graham O’Sullivan to make the score 7 points apiece after 35 minutes. Then Templenoe hit a purple patch, which started with Mark Casey doing well to pop the ball over the bar, despite the advances of the opposing defence. South Kerry had chances to level, but hit a wide and a short, before a good team move saw Killian Spillane set up Brian Crowley to strike a wonderful goal. Things got even better for them minutes later with Killian Spillane and Tadhg Morley both splitting the posts to make the score 1-10 to 0-07 after 45 minutes. This put Templenoe in a great position to push on for yet another big win for the club, but around this time also Templenoe lost both midfielders - two of their influential players Sean Sheehan and Adrian Spillane to injury, which was a sucker punch for the boys in blue. South Kerry made a few changes and redoubled their efforts to bring Templenoe’s lead down point by point. Jack Daly, Dylan O’Donoghue (3) and Matthew O’Sullivan were all on target to make the score 1-10 to 0-12 after 54 minutes. Templenoe were now on the back foot, but Aidan Crowley did try to steady the ship with a perfectly executed long range free. South Kerry though were growing in confidence and Anthony Cournane reduced the margin to one point again, with just two minutes of normal time remaining, before the in form Dylan O’Donoghue equalized with his fifth point of the day to make the score all square at full time.

Final Score: Templenoe 1-11, South Kerry 0-14.

Kerry Petroleum Senior Football Club Championship, Semi-Final.

Templenoe 0-14, Dingle 0-10.

Last Saturday was yet another historic evening for the Club, with the Templenoe senior footballers reaching the Senior Club Final for the first time ever after overcoming Dingle in a keenly contested game played before a very large crowd evening in Templenoe. All in the club can now look forward with great pride and enthusiasm to the final against Kerins O’Rahilly, sometime in October, with a few rounds of the County Championship to be played in advance.

Dingle had the brighter start with the first score of the game through a Gavin H Curran free. But just as quickly things turned sour when they were reduced to 14 men, with Dylan Geaney one of their key forwards receiving his marching orders following an off the ball incident. This put the West Kerry men at a disadvantage for pretty much the whole game, but to their credit they battled very hard from start to finish and never allowed Templenoe to pull too far clear. Indeed Barry O’Sullivan doubled Dingle lead with a free soon after and they almost followed this up with a goal only for the ball to be cleared off the line. Stephen O’Sullivan finally opened Templenoe’s account 10 minutes in. The hosts were somewhat sloppy when in possession early on and it took time for them to settle into this game, while Dingle were keeping the score board ticking over with frees, Gavin H Curran added his second of the day from a placed ball in the 12^th minute. However, not for the first time in this competition John Rice popped up from the back to get his name on the score sheet with a long range effort to spark life into Templenoe. This made the score 0-02 to 0-03 at the end of the first quarter. Paul Geaney was unlucky to see his point effort come off the upright in the ensuing play, but Templenoe were now starting to get a bit of rhythm going when on the offensive. Killian Spillane (f), Aidan Crowley and Gavin Crowley all split the posts to put the hosts two points up. Dingle responded in kind with Niall Geaney and Tom O’Sullivan (f) both hitting the target to tie the scores again. The hosts though finished the first half with a flourish, courtesy of scores from Killian Spillane, Colin Crowley and Aidan Crowley (f) to give them a three points cushion at the break,

Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-08, Dingle 0-05.

Dingle had chances to narrow the gap after the restart, but their shooting left them down. Yet, Paul Geaney did pull one back in the 37^th minute, before two points on the trot from Stephen O’Sullivan one from free and one from play saw the hosts open up a four points gap. Dingle are not County League Division One champions for nothing and they refused to let Templenoe push on. Two white flags in quick succession from Ruadhan McCarthy and Barry O’Sullivan saw the visitors make the score 0-10 to 0-08 by the end of the first quarter. Templenoe then suffered a blow with Stephen O’Sullivan having to retire injured, but his replacement Cian Hallissey did not let the side down when introduced. Killian Spillane and Sean Sheehan restored Templenoe’s lead to four points with two neat scores. But back again came Dingle with Barry O’Sullivan once again to the fore to keep them within one goal of their opponents. Then came perhaps the pivotal score of the game, when Killian Spillane won a mark despite intense pressure from the Dingle defence to thump the ball over the bar. Coming into the home straight, Tom O’Sullivan (f) and Killian Spillane exchanged scores. Dingle needed a goal and they frantically tried to get one in the closing minutes, but Mark Looney and his defence withstood the late sieges and duly saw out the game for a massive win for the Club.

Well done to all the players and management on this remarkable achievement of reaching the Senior Club Final and commiserations to Dingle. This is some turnaround for Templenoe, especially when one considers we were a Novice Club from 1998 to 2013 and were rooted to Division 5 of the County league from 2000 to 2011.

Kerry Petroleum Senior Football Club Championship, Group 2, Round 3.

Kerins O’Rahillys 0-13, Templenoe 1-10.

A deserved draw against Kerins O’Rahillys sees Templenoe finish top of group 2, the only team unbeaten in the group. As their reward, Templenoe will have home advantage to Dingle in the semi-final next weekend. This another fantastic achievement for the club, with the players continuing to raise the bar. Templenoe also reached the semi-final stage last year of course, but this is the first time the team topped their group in this competition.

The match was played in Strand Road before a large crowd on yet another glorious day. It was a good open and entertaining game of football with both sides attacking at every opportunity. Templenoe started brightly with Stephen O’Sullivan from a free and Killian Spillane from play opening the scoring. Then three points on the trot from the boot of Jack Savage (2f) put the Narries in front for the first time 14 minutes in. But there was never more than one point separating the sides in the second quarter. Killian Spillane with a mark and Stephen O’Sullivan from a free briefly edged Templenoe ahead to make the score 0-03 to 0-04 after 17 minutes. After that the points starting coming thick and fast for the remainder of the first half with Kerins O’Rahillys tagging on another four points courtesy of Gearoid Savage (f), Jack Savage from a 45 and a free and veteran David Moran. While Templenoe replied promptly each time with Sean Sheehan (m), Gavin Crowley and Killian Spillane all splitting the posts.

Half Time Score: Kerins O’Rahillys 0-07, Templenoe 0-07.

Kerins O’Rahillys were in more need of result than Templenoe, all be it that the visitors did not have a semi-final spot fully secured going into this contest. At the restart. O’Rahillys immediately pulled two points clear with Barry John Keane fisting ball the over the bar, before Jack Savage added another from a placed ball. Templenoe did reply with Sean Sheehan raising his second white flag of the day in the 36^th minute to cut the deficit to one point, but it would take Templenoe another eleven minutes before they would eventually get their next score. Kerins O’Rahillys meanwhile were hitting a purple patch and had the next three in a row all coming from their sharp shooter Jack Savage, one from play and two from frees. This made the score 0-12 to 0-08 after 46 minutes and put the hosts in a strong position going into the final quarter. Templenoe fearing that this game was beginning to slip introduced a few subs, including the welcome return to action of Cian Hallissey in a bid to stem the tide. Killian Spillane thumped over a much needed score from a free, to keep the hosts in the contest. Then in the 28^th minute came the game changer, when a high ball in from Gavin Crowley was tipped down by Josh Crowley Holland to Killian Spillane, who clinically finished the ball to the net. The sides were now level for the 7^th time, but there remained a few minutes for either side to grab a winner. Jack Savage did nail one more free for the hosts, but Adrian Spillane was in no mood to finish second best and he duly equalized shortly before the full time whistle. Templenoe sit top of Group 2 of the Senior Club Championship after yet another extraordinary result, where they edged Dr Crokes by one point in a tight contest. This win also means that Templenoe has secured senior status for 2023, which is in itself a brilliant achievement making it four consecutive years at top flight.

The match was played before a large crowd in a sun-drenched Templenoe last Saturday evening. Micheal Burns scored the opening point one minute in. Then Adrian Spillane drove forward for Templenoe, but his effort for a score was deflected out for a 45. Aidan Crowley with a slight breeze behind him converted the 45 to draw the hosts level. In the ensuing eight minutes, Templenoe hit four points on the trot to raise the expectations of the home support. Two of these scores came from Killian Spillane frees and then either of Killian’s frees came inspirational scores from wing backs Patrick Clifford and Gavin Crowley. This made the score 0-05 to 0-01 after ten minutes of play. However, there was no chance Dr Crokes were going to let Templenoe run away with this game, as they slowly started to reel in the Templenoe lead. Two Tony Brosnan frees just ahead of the water break left two points between the sides at the end of the first quarter.

On resumption, Crokes continued their comeback with a brace of points from Cian McMahon to even the scores. The visitors it seemed were weathering the Templenoe storm, with the hosts now struggling for scores. Having said that, the Crokes had chances to push on and create a gap themselves too, but they were misfiring as were Templenoe in front of the goal. Templenoe eventually got a much needed score five minutes before half time to regain the lead courtesy of a Killian Spillane effort from play.

It was all to play for at the start of the second half. Dr Crokes squandered two chances to get back on level terms with one wide and one short, before Stephen O’Sullivan had an effort diverted for a 45. Aidan Crowley once again did the business to put Templenoe two points to the good. Then came the Dr Crokes goal, following a quick team movement catching Templenoe open at the back, with substitute Daithi Casey setting up Cian McMahon who finished the ball perfectly to the net. This put Dr Crokes in front for only the second time in the game. Templenoe refused to panic though with team captain Gavin Crowley taking on the responsibility to score his second point of the day. The game was on a knife edge and both sides had goal chances before the second half water break, with Adrian Spillane going close for Templenoe after one of his trade mark runs, while at the other end Tony Brosnan looked like he might have a goal only for the ball to spill away from him at the crucial moment. Mark Casey edged Templenoe in front again with a well taken score to make it 0-09 to 1-05 at the water break.

Dr Crokes introduced Gavin O’Shea and Cillian Fitzgerald in the final quarter. Michael Potts brought Dr Crokes back level with ten minutes left to play. Templenoe were frantically trying to regain the lead, but their finishing was leaving them down. Templenoe hit a total of 10 wides in the game, while Dr Crokes were even more wasteful hitting 11 wides. But perhaps the defences deserve credit for putting pressure on the kickers. While Templenoe keeper Mark Looney in particular deserves credit for dealing effectively with every ball that came his way. In the end, it took a monstrous free from Aidan Crowley to separate the sides, just four minutes before the final whistle. Well done to all our players and management on this huge win!

A phenomenal performance from start to finish by Templenoe back boned by the return of our county contingent paved the way for another famous win, this time against the reigning Club and County Championship champions Austin Stacks. The game was played at Legion GAA Grounds on Sunday in glorious weather with little or no breeze.

Before throw-in there was a minute’s silence held as a mark of respect for the late Dillon Quirke Tipperary following his sudden and sad passing last Friday evening. Austin Stacks were first off the mark with David Mannix slotting over a free. Stephen O’Sullivan countered, before a long range effort from Templenoe corner back John Rice sailed all the ways over the bar. Killian Spillane added a free to continue the early signs of intent from Templenoe, but Austin Stacks then sent a reminder of how dangerous they can be when their keeper Wayne Guthrie joined the attack to help set up Jack O’Shea who cut in from the right corner to finish the ball to the net. This put the Tralee side one point to the good. To their credit, Templenoe refused to let this unsettle them with Killian Spillane and Sean Sheehan raising another two white flags for the boys in blue, before David Mannix nailed another free. By the end of the first quarter the score was 0-05 to 1-02, but it was clear at this stage that Templenoe were more up for this contest than their opponents. They were playing with more cohesion and purpose throughout the field, which was demonstrated time again with numerous turnovers, well timed tackles and intelligent use of the ball when in possession. Templenoe finished out the second half superbly to outscore the Stacks by 1-04 to 0-00.  Stephen O’Sullivan and Killian Spillane tagged on two points to precede the highlight of the game, when Stephen O’Sullivan vigilant to a short kick out from Wayne Guthrie, caught the ball and executed a precision lob that dipped into the net for as a good a goal as one will ever see. Two more points from Stephen one from a free and one from play saw Templenoe going in soaring ahead at the break.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 1-09, Austin Stacks 1-02.

At the restart, Austin Stacks knew that they had a fight on their hands, they made a few switches and came out all guns blazing, but they were finding Templenoe hard to breakdown. David Mannix had a brace of points to reduce the margin to five early in the second half. Then Kerry captain Joe O’Connor got forward and hit blistering shot which was well saved by net minder Mark Looney. Had they buried that goal chance, there would only be two points separating the sides with 23 minutes still to play. Instead it was Templenoe who powered on again with Stephen O’Sullivan somehow finding a way through the Austin Stacks defence, before offloading a perfect pass across the face of the goal for Josh Crowley Holland to palm home. This made the score 2-09 to 1-04 with 39 minutes on the clock. Stephen O’Sullivan added another point to his impressive tally soon after. However, the county champions were not going to give up and hit back with two well taken scores from Jack O’Shea and Sean Quilter. Aidan Crowley playing in his first senior club game for Templenoe, proved he wasn’t fazed by the occasion with two calmly struck points late on. Austin Stacks launched a few speculative balls in towards the Templenoe square towards the end of the game, but were unable to find a route to goal and had settle for a point from Gearoid Fitzgerald. Their task got even harder when they lost Eoghan Carroll to a black card for the remainder of the game. David Mannix did convert one last free for the Stacks, but there was to be no denying Templenoe who were full value for this win and will no doubt take great encouragement from this result. Well done to all the players and management.

Laune Rangers 1-17, Templenoe 2-10.

Templenoe lost out to Laune Rangers by four points in the final round of this year’s county league last Friday evening in Killorglin. With both teams already safe from relegation, but out of contention for promotion prior to this contest, the game perhaps unsurprisingly lacked excitement, although there was a steady flow of scores.

On a glorious evening for football, both teams wasted no time finding their shooting boots with Eoghan Hassett and Stephen O’Sullivan trading two scores each in the opening 4 minutes. Indeed Stephen O’Sullivan was on fire for the visitors in the first half. He added another point to his tally before he bagged two well taken goals to put Templenoe 0-03 to 2-03 up by the 11^th minute. Stephen Daly had a score for Laune Rangers in between, before two points on the trot from David Mangan and Daniel Macbeth helped to slightly soften the blow of Templenoe’s two green flags. For the remainder of the first half it was pretty much score for score. Templenoe had points from Stephen O’Sullivan (2) and Colin Crowley (2), while Laune Rangers produced white flags from David Mangan, Eoghan Hassett (2) and Eoin Clifford. Then just before the half time whistle came the turning point when the Templenoe defence under strong pressure from the Rangers attack struggled to clear their lines from inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty. John Tyther neatly converted the spot kick to reduce the margin to the minimum.

Half Time Score: Laune Rangers 1-09, Templenoe 2-07.

Buoyed by their goal just before the break, Laune Rangers started the second half on the front foot, with a long ball to Daniel Macbeth who called the mark and duly obliged with his effort. Stephen O’Sullivan briefly restored Templenoe’s one point advantage, however this would be the last time the visitors had the lead. Laune Rangers then hit purple patch with four answered points courtesy of Patrick Carey, John Tyther, Shane Doona and Gabriel Griffin to make the score 1-14 to 2-08 mid way through the second half. Brian and Colin Crowley (f) responded with two hard earned scores for Templenoe. This put just the one point between the sides with seven minutes left to play. However, coming into the home straight, Laune Rangers just had that bit more in the tank with Calum Moriarty, John Tyther and Patrick Carey tagging on three more points to safely close the game for the hosts.

Templenoe’s place in Division 2 of the County league is secure for another year, after the hosts overcame John Mitchels by five points last Saturday evening.

The match was played in miserable weather conditions and it was John Mitchels who had the aid of a strong wind for the first half. John Rice opened the scoring to draw first blood for the hosts five minutes in, following good build up play. Niall Sheehy countered with a white flag for the visitors, before Stephen O’Sullivan cut loose at the other end fisting a ball across the square that was finished to the net by Josh Crowley Holland for Templenoe’s first goal. Mitchels wasted quite a few chances in the first half, but Shane O’Connor did pull one back for them to make the score 1-01 to 0-02 after nine minutes of play. Soon after Stephen O’Sullivan restored Templenoe’s lead to three points, before John Mitchels hit five unanswered points courtesy of Stephen Bowler, Mikey Kelliher (f), Cian Holden, Niall Sheehy (f) and Shane O’Connor to give John Mitchels a two points cushion going in at the break.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 1-02 John Mitchels 0-07.

Josh Crowley Holland pointed for Templenoe immediately after the restart, but there was to be no further score for the remainder of the third quarter. John Mitchels had the more of the possession and were winning most of the breaks, but crucially they were failing to make it count on the scoreboard. A break away attack for Templenoe in the 48^th minute saw Josh Crowley Holland combine with Colin Crowley, with the latter fouled inside the square and penalty was awarded. Brian Crowley stepped up and slotted the ball home. From there on the result was never in doubt. Further scores were added by Mark Casey, Colin Crowley (f) and Stephen O’Sullivan (f) for the hosts, to comfortably close out the game.

Final Score: Templenoe 2-06, John Mitchels 0-07.

Well done to all the players and management on retaining our Division 2 status despite a rocky start, losing our first three matches and our player numbers were tight for many of the games also. There remains one more county league game to be played away to Laune Rangers, before attention turns to the club championship.
