Castleisland Co-Op Mart County Intermediate Football Championship, Templenoe V Glenbeigh / Glencar
Castleisland Co-Op Mart, County Intermediate Football Championship:
Templenoe 1-10, Glenbeigh / Glencar 0-11
Templenoe emerged victorious after a hard fought win over Glenbeigh/Glencar in the second round of the Castleisland Co-Op Mart, County Intermediate Football Championship. The match was played on a poor day for football with a blustery wind and a wet pitch with the rain just about holding off for the hour of football.
The visitors opened the scoring when Gavin O’Grady pointed from a free, but Templenoe were playing the better football in the first half and a Killian Spillane point was quickly followed by a Brian Crowley goal. Some good work from Stephen O’Sullivan saw the ball passed across the Glenbeigh/Glencar goalmouth for Brian Crowley to palm to the net. Templenoe continued to play with a good tempo, and despite some poor wides, they kicked the following four points from Brian Crowley, Killian Spillane, Pat Spillane and Gavin Crowley. Pat Spillane’s point was the pick of the bunch when he kicked a great long range point from out near the stand sideline.
On the 17th minute Gavin O’Grady kicked another pointed free for Glenbeigh/Glencar and Tommy Cahill followed up soon after with their first point from play. Killian Spillane responded with a pointed free, and the last two scores of the half were kicked by Brian Crowley and Adrian Spillane to leave a half time score, Templenoe 1-08, Glenbeigh / Glencar 0-03.
Gavin O’Grady pointed a free on the 35th minute, but by this stage Templenoe had squandered some great opportunities and had kicked four wides in a row. Glenbeigh/Glencar followed up with another two points from Gavin O’Grady and Tommy Cahill before Killian Spillane kicked a free for the home side. Glenbeigh/Glencar were coming strongly into the match at this stage and a Fergal Griffin point left a scoreline of Templenoe 1-09, Glenbeigh / Glencar 0-07 with fifteen minutes remaining.
Templenoe had opportunities in the final period of the match but were guilty of wasting too many chances, but a very good individual run by Pat Spillane resulting in a fisted point helped calm the home side. In the last ten minutes Templenoe received two black cards in quick succession when both John Rice and Teddy Doyle were sent to the line. Gavin O’Grady pointed another free, and Kieran Courtney soon followed up with a point from play to reduce the arrears to four.
A further Glenbeigh/Glencar attack saw Darran O’Sullivan in possession and driving at the Templenoe defence, but he was fouled just outside the square. Gavin O’Grady pointed the resulting free. Time was running out for the visitors but Glenbeigh/Glencar kept pressurizing, and a Templenoe move trying to pass the ball across their own goal saw the ball spilled and narrowly toe poked wide. Another pointed free for Glenbeigh/Glencar reduced the deficit to two points, but time was fast running out for the Mid Kerry men and Templenoe held on to advance to the County Intermediate Semi Final on a score of Templenoe 1-10, Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-11.

County Intermediate Championship Match Report, Waterville V Templenoe
Waterville 0-09, Templenoe 2-09,
Templenoe advanced to the second round with a good victory away to Waterville in the County Intermediate Football Championship. The match was played on a dry pitch with a strong breeze flowing across the pitch, that favoured the hosts in the first half.
Waterville opened the scoring with a free by corner forward Stephen O’Dwyer, but a brace of points on the fourth minute by Brian Crowley and Danny Cahalane saw Templenoe take the lead. Danny Cahalane’s point came when he launched in a free kick from half way and it bounced over the bar. Oran Clifford kicked the home side’s first point from play, and this was soon followed by a pointed free by Stephen O’Dwyer. Stephen O’Sullivan again pointed for Templenoe leaving the score on the fifteen minute mark, Waterville 0-03, Templenoe 0-03.
The following ten minutes witnessed lengthy delays due to injuries to two Waterville players, but both were able to play on. When the match got going again, the next score came Templenoe’s way when a flowing hand passing move involving the Templenoe attack up the left hand side of the field resulted in a goal for Pat Spillane. Templenoe did not kick on from this and the last two points of the half were scored by Waterville, leaving the half time score, Waterville 0-05, Templenoe 1-03.
The second half scoring was initiated with a point by Stephen O’Sullivan. Tadhg Morley and Waterville sub Fergal Cronin then swapped scores, before Stephen O’Sullivan kicked another. Both teams were guilty of missing good chances in this period which kept the match in the balance. Points were swapped by Barry O’Dwyer and Killian Spillane, and then by Stephen O’Sullivan and Stephen O’Dwyer leaving the score with 15 minutes remaining, Waterville 0-08, Templenoe 1-07.
Josh Crowley-Holland worked hard to return Templenoe to a three point lead with a point, but despite good possession coming into the last ten minutes, Templenoe struggled to put Waterville away, and kicked three wides in a row. It was shaping up for a tense final few minutes until Pat Spillane scored Templenoe’s second goal of the match to extend their lead to six points. Cian Hallissey who came in as a sub early in the second half, pointed the visitor’s last point of the match. Fergal Cronin kicked Waterville’s last score in injury time, and the final whistle saw Templenoe victorious on a score of Waterville 0-09, Templenoe 2-09:
