Credit Union County Senior Football League, Division 2 Round 8 Match Report, Templenoe V Glenbeigh/Glencar
County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 8.
Templenoe 0-10, Glenbeigh-Glencar 1-11.
Templenoe hosted Glenbeigh-Glencar in round 8 of the county league last Sunday. A below par display by Templenoe saw them lose out to Glenbeigh-Glencar who gave a more assured performance on the day.
Templenoe had wind advantage for the first half and had an okay first quarter to lead by 0-03 to 0-01, with Brian Crowley from an acute angle, Martin Reilly and Colin Crowley (f) all contributing, while Glenbeigh-Glencar had their opening score from Keilen O’Sullivan. Then the visitors went level with two points on the trot – one through Colin McGillycuddy from a mark before Keilen O’Sullivan added his second point from play. Colin Crowley edged Templenoe ahead again with another placed ball in the 21st minute, but that would be Templenoe’s last score for the remainder of the first half. Templenoe did have chances to add to their tally, but they were inclined to cough up possession which was a bit of a feature throughout the game and they also hit a few wides. In contrast, the visitors were more cohesive and made better use of their possession when on the offensive to manufacture four more points before the break with Darran O’Sullivan proving he still had plenty in his locker and Liam Smith among their scorers.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-04, Glenbeigh-Glencar 0-07
On resumption, Colin Crowley slotted over another free for the hosts, but Glenbeigh replied with a sucker punch after they burst up the field in well worked team move involving Jack Brosnan and Darran O’Sullivan who passed across the square for Caolim Teahan to palm home for a simple finish. This extended the margin to five points but there was plenty of time for Templenoe to launch a fight back and in fairness to the hosts they did rally. Three points on the bounce from Daniel Crowley, Brian Crowley and Colin Crowley (f) saw Templenoe reduce the deficit to two points with the score reading 0-08 to 1-07 after 49 minutes of play. However, that was as close as Templenoe could get. Darran O’Sullivan put a bit of daylight between sides again soon after with two points in quick succession. Templenoe didn’t let Glenbeigh out of sight and stayed in touch with two Colin Crowley points either side of points from Rian O’Donovan and Caolim Teahan, but what the hosts really needed at that stage to rescue this game was a green flag and they just couldn’t pull it off.
Final Score: Templenoe 0-10, Glenbeigh-Glencar 1-11.
Scorers:
Templenoe: Colin Crowley 0-06 (5f), Brian Crowley 0-02, Martin Reilly 0-01, Daniel Crowley 0-01.
Glenbeigh-Glencar: Darran O’Sullivan 0-04 (1f), Caolim Teahan 1-01, Colin McGillycuddy 0-01 (1m), Keilen O’Sullivan 0-02, Liam Smith 0-01, Rian O’Donovan 0-01.
Teams:
Templenoe: Mark Looney, Michael Hallissey, Kieran O’Neill, Ríain O'Byrne, Martin Reilly, Gavin Crowley, Ciaran Crowley, Sean Sheehan, Josh Crowley Holland, Hugh Granville, Patrick Clifford, Kieran McCarthy, Daniel Crowley, Brian Crowley, Colin Crowley.

Kellehers Toyota Central Region Division 2 Final, Na Fianna V Ballymacelligott
Kellehers Toyota Central Region Division 2 Final (Match report courtesy of Tuosist GAA Club Facebook page)
BALLYMACELLIGOT 1-17,
NA FIANNA 2-05.
Hard luck to Na Fianna Minor footballers who performed admirably against Ballymacelligott on Monday evening in the final of the Kellehers Toyota Tralee Central Region Division 2 League competition played in Cromane.
As expected this was always going to be a difficult assignment considering that Ballymac had played in Division One of this years County League while Na Fianna had competed in Div.3. This along with the fact that Na Fianna were without the services of County minor Donncha O'Sullivan who was ruled out for the competition made the task all the more daunting, but fair play the lads tried hard and if anything the scoreline probably should have been closer than Ballymacs nine point winning margin if it were not for a number of missed scoring opportunities on the evening.
The team and management however can be happy with their campaign in the league overall. The experience gained playing at this level for the first time along with two excellent wins in the competition over Division One sides John Mitchell's and Austin Stacks will surely stand to the team later on in the Championship.
Many thanks to Patrick Casey and the Cromane club who had the field in splendid shape and to referee Billy O'Shea along with his umpires and linesmen for a job well done and also the Cental League for organising the competition and sponsors Kellehers Toyota Tralee. Congratulations to Ballymacelligot team and management on their win in what was an enjoyable and sporting game of football played in the best of spirits.
