Templenoe 2-14, Churchill 0-09.

Templenoe secured promotion to Division 3 of the County Senior Football League with a good win over a dogged Churchill team. The match was played on a dry Templenoe pitch on an evening that was perfect for football.

In a low scoring first 15 minutes, Sean Sheehan opened the account for the home side. This was quickly cancelled out by a free for Churchill forward Benny Dillon. Both sides continued to swap scores with Adrian Spillane and Brian Crowley on target for Templenoe, Benny Dillon continued to keep the visitors in touch.

A good period of Templenoe play resulted in two points for Adrian Spillane, to leave the score on 20 minutes, Templenoe 0-05, Churchill 0-03. The last 10 minutes of the half, saw two fine individual long range points from Churchill forwards Shane McMahon and Mikey Brennan to again level the scores. The last score of the half came Templenoe’s way with Danny Cahalane pointing. Half time score was Templenoe 0-06, Churchill 0-05

Churchill again levelled the scoring early in the 2nd half through Cillian Fitzgerald, but in a decisive 10 minute period, Templenoe opened a commanding five point lead. Adrian Spillane, Brian Crowley, Danny Cahalane, Patrick Palmer and Tommy Spillane all contributing scores. Benny Dillon responded with a free but a good Templenoe involving several Templenoe players saw Tadhg Morley punching the ball over the bar.

On the 50 minute mark a Templenoe free, taken by Patrick Palmer, rebounded off the upright and straight into the waiting arms of Danny Cahalane. Danny did very well to finish the ball into the back of the net through a crowded Churchill goal area. Brian Crowley and Cillian Fitzgerald swapped scores before Sean Sheehan was fouled going through on goal for the home team. Current Kerry Junior goalkeeper, Paul O’Sullivan made a great double save from the resulting penalty.

The last few minutes of the match, saw Patrick Palmer and Benny Dillon swap scores, but in the last play of the match, a good Templenoe team move up the middle put Patrick Palmer through for a goal to leave the final score, Templenoe 2-14, Churchill 0-09.
