Div 3 County SFL, An Ghaeltacht V Templenoe

An Ghaeltacht 0-12, Templenoe 1-09.

Templenoe travelled to An Ghaeltacht in round 4 of the County Senior Football League. The match was played in difficult weather conditions with a strong breeze and misty conditions throughout.

Templenoe played with the wind for the 1^st half, but struggled in the opening 10 minutes, and saw An Ghaeltacht opening up a 3 point lead. The visitors finally got on the score sheet with a point on 14 minutes, and quickly followed up with a second.

Templenoe did not utilise the wind advantage throughout the 1^st half, and saw numerous long passes miss their target and run over the end line. Despite this Templenoe had a slender one point lead by the 25^th minute, but An Ghaeltacht finished stronger, and went in at half time with a one point lead of An Ghaeltacht 0-06, Templenoe 0-05.

Templenoe faced a tough task for the 2^nd half, and similar to the opening half, An Ghaeltacht got the opening scores. On the 40^th minute mark the home side led on a scoreline of An Ghaeltacht 0-08, Templenoe 0-05. Templenoe pulled back a point, and started to raise their game coming into the last 15 minutes. A number of driving runs from the Templenoe half back line were beginning to yield results, but Templenoe were struggling to register scores against the wind. The defining moment of the match came when an attempt of a point dropped short. John Moriarity worked hard to secure possession for Templenoe, and the ball broke to Tadhg Morley who finished high to the net. This left the score on 50 minutes, An Ghaeltacht 0-09 Templenoe 1-07.

The home team quickly responded with a point, but Templenoe kept pushing for scores. Templenoe again restored their lead, but again saw An Ghaeltacht cancel it out with a point. More Templenoe pressure saw Cian Hallissey score Templenoe’s last point of the game, but with the last kick of the match, An Ghaeltacht registered a point to leave the match a draw, on a score of An Ghaeltacht 0-12, Templenoe 1-09.

County Junior Football Championship, Templenoe V St Pats Blennerville

Templenoe 0-18, St Pats Blennerville 1-12

Templenoe emerged victorious, after a high scoring match played in perfect conditions in Templenoe Gaa grounds on Saturday evening.

Templenoe opened the scoring with two points from Killian Spillane, which was replied to by a free from Andy Byrne for St Pats. Both teams swapped scores through Sean Sheehan and Kieran Hurley, before Kieran Hurley punched a goal to the net after a great run by Jake Foley. The score after 15 minutes was Templenoe 0-03, St Pats 1-02.

Kieran McCarthy scored a very good long range point for the Home side, but St Pats increased their lead through scores from Luke Mulligan and Kieran Hurley. A long ball was well won by Killian Spillane, but St Pats goalie Paudi Bailey pulled off a great double save to keep the home side goalless. Cian Hallissey pointed the resulting 45’ from a quickly worked move.

Andy Byrne scored another free to put a goal between the sides, but Templenoe finished off the first half the strongest, and got six points through Cian Hallissey, Killian Spillane, Denis O’Neill, Brian Crowley and Adrian Spillane. The Half time score was Templenoe 0-11, St Pats 1-05

Kieran Hurley fired the first point of the second half, which was responded to by scores from Sean Sheehan and Cian Hallissey. Both teams exchanged points which was followed by a superb point by Liam O’Sullivan who sliced over a line ball for the visitors. Templenoe again responded through a Killian Spillane free, to leave the score on 40 minutes, Templenoe 0-15, St Pats 1-08.

St Pats tagged on the next two scores through Liam Sullivan and Kieran Hurley, but good Templenoe attacking saw further scores from Killian Spillane and Cian Hallissey. There were few scores in the last ten minutes, as Templenoe continued to maintain their 3 point lead. Points were swapped through Sean Sheehan and Willie Hurley, and the final score of the match was scored from a free by Kieran Hurley for the visitors, to leave the full time score, Templenoe 0-18, St Pats 1-12

Div 3 County SFL, Templenoe V Dromid

Templenoe 1-12, Dromid 2-10

Dromid held out for a one point victory, in an exciting match played in pleasant conditions in Templenoe on Saturday evening.

Templenoe had the better start, and scores from Adrian Spillane (2), Patrick Palmer and Gavin Crowley saw the home side open a three point lead after ten minutes. Dromid’s opening score was pointed by Gearoid O’Sullivan, but this period saw two great saves by the Dromid goalie, Dan Curran, to keep Templenoe Goalless.

Both teams swapped points, and on the 17^th minute, a long ball found Declan O’Sullivan unmarked who rounded the goalie and finished to an empty net for Dromid’s opening goal. Templenoe responded quickly, and a well worked move resulted in a goal by Adrian Spillane to restore Templenoe’s lead. The score after 20 minutes was Templenoe 1-06, Dromid 1-02.

Gavin Crowley added another point for Templenoe, but Dromid kept in touch with scores from Thomas Curran and Declan O’Sullivan. The last score of the half came Templenoe’s way, leaving the half time score, Templenoe 1-08, Dromid 1-02

The opening score of the 2^nd half came from a free by Declan O’Sullivan for Dromid. This period was notable for a dominant period of Templenoe play, but the home team kicked some bad wide’s. Brian Crowley registered Templenoe’s first score after the interval. Ten minutes into the half, Dromid started winning the breaks around midfield, and following a point from Dromid sub, Aidan O’Shea, the visiting team got a 2^nd goal through midfielder, Denis Shine O’Sullivan. This goal levelled matters on the 42^nd minute at Templenoe 1-09, Dromid 2-06.

Dromid kicked on from this point, and registered the next 4 points, through Shane O’Connor, Michael Sheehan, Denis O’Sullivan and Declan O’Sullivan. Coming into the last 10 minutes, Templenoe started coming into the match again. 3 points from frees were registered by the home team, and a frantic last few minutes saw Templenoe win a 45’ for the last kick of the match. The resulting shot didn’t hit the target, leaving Dromid victorious on a full time score of Templenoe 1-12, Dromid 2-10.

Spillane Cup Final, Templenoe V Kenmare

Full Time Result: Templenoe 1-14, Kenmare 0-04

Templenoe proved to good for Kenmare in the Kenmare District Board Spillane Cup Final, played in damp conditions at Templenoe on Saturday evening.

Kenmare got the scoring underway with a free but Templenoe responded with points form Kieran McCarthy, John Rice, Padraig Doyle and Patrick Palmer. Kenmare followed with another free but Templenoe again responded with scores from John Rice and Denis O Neill to leave the half time score Templenoe 0-06, Kenmare 0-02

The first score of the second half went to Kenmare as Templenoe struggled to hit the target early in the second half. Patrick Palmer converted a long distant free and Templenoe followed with points from Daniel O Neill, Denis O Neill and John Rice. Both teams swapped scores and coming into the last five minutes John Rice struck a superb goal. Templenoe closed out the game with three more points to leave the final score Templenoe 1-14, Kenmare 0-04.

Kenmare District Board Chairman PJ McIntyre presented the Spillane Cup to Templenoe Captain Shane Cremin and the man of the match award was presented to Templenoe wing back Joseph Sheehan.
