Garvey's SuperValu County Senior Football Championship Match Report, Templenoe V Shannon Rangers
Garveys SuperValu County Senior Football Championship, Round 2.
Templenoe 1-16, Shannon Rangers 1-12 (AET).
Templenoe have qualified for the county championship senior quarter-final, after overcoming Shannon Rangers in an entertaining game that went all the ways to extra time. In doing so, Templenoe have maintained the club’s proud record of reaching the last eight of the county championship every year since Templenoe’s debut season in the county championship back in 2020.
The game was played on a dry afternoon at Fitzgerald Stadium last Sunday. Shannon Rangers started the brighter with Jack Kennelly (mark) and John Coolahan splitting the posts to get them off the mark. It took Templenoe a while to settle before their sharpshooter Killian Spillane put over two points from play either side of a Jack Kennelly white flag for the north Kerry side. This made it 0-02 to 0-03 in favour of the Rangers at the end of the first quarter.
Templenoe were the dominant side in the second quarter and they made it count with a brace of points from Kieran McCarthy, Gavin Crowley, Brian Crowley and John Rice. Then Templenoe almost had a goal when a diagonal ball across the goal from Colin Crowley was nearly fisted to the net from Killian Spillane only to be denied by Pa Carmody. Jack Kennelly pointed another free just before the break to leave two points between the sides at the interval.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-06, Shannon Rangers 0-04.
Shannon Rangers enjoyed a purple patch at the beginning of the second half. Four unanswered points from Dara Keane, Jason Foley, Jack Kennelly and Evan Boyle saw them re-take the lead by two before Killian Spillane cut the deficit to the minimum once more with a converted free. Then came the Templenoe goal in sweet move involving Josh Crowley Holland and Killian Spillane who put Tadhg Morley through on goal and Morley executed his shot perfectly giving Rangers keeper Pa Carmody no chance. Colin Crowley added another point immediately after to put Templenoe 1-08 to 0-08 ahead at the end of the third quarter.
Templenoe consolidated their lead with two more points from Brian Crowley and Killian Spillane to extend Templenoe’s lead to five points coming into the home stretch. Credit to Shannon Rangers they kept plugging away and they brought Templenoe’s lead back down to three points courtesy of two quick scores from Brendan O’Neill and Jack Kennelly. The announcement of 5 minutes injury time gave hope to the Rangers as Templenoe retreated to defend their lead. Then a high ball in from the north Kerry side broke kindly to Kevin Goulding and he fired home the equalizer to bring the game into extra-time. Templenoe did have one last chance to win the game in normal time, but a placed ball effort from Colin Crowley went narrowly wide of the posts.
Full Time Score: Templenoe 1-10, Shannon Rangers 1-10.
Buoyed by their injury time goal to draw the game at the end of normal time, Shannon Rangers duly got the first score in extra-time through Jack Kennelly. But Templenoe were having none of it and reignited with the next four points on the trot courtesy of Adrian Spillane, Brian Crowley (2) and well won and converted mark from Killian Spillane.
Extra-Time, Half Time Score: Templenoe 1-14, Shannon Rangers 1-11.
Shannon Rangers tried hard for a second goal by hitting a few probing balls in towards the Templenoe goal, but the Templenoe defence cleared their lines each time and went on to make sure of their hard earned win with two late points from Kieran McCarthy and Adrian Spillane either side of pointed free from Jack Kennelly.
Final Score (AET): Templenoe 1-16, Shannon Rangers 1-12.

Garvey's SuperValy County Senior Football Championship Rnd1 Match Report, Templenoe V Feale Rangers
Garveys SuperValu County Senior Football Championship, Round 1.
Templenoe 0-11, Feale Rangers 0-10.
A strong second half display by Templenoe saw them edge out Feale Rangers by the minimum at Templenoe GAA Grounds on Sunday in round 1 of the county championship.
The game was played in ideal conditions with little or no breeze on a lovely September afternoon. The hosts were fast out the traps with two points on the board inside the first minute courtesy of Colin Crowley and Killian Spillane. Feale Rangers then started to get on top and countered with the in-form Cormac Dillon firing over two frees and one mark before Killian Spillane tied the scores again at the end of the first quarter with a free to make the score 0-03 apiece.
Templenoe found it difficult to penetrate a well organised Feale Rangers defence in the second quarter with three wides from three attempts. Feale Rangers meanwhile did manage to keep the scoreboard ticking over with Cormac Dillon (2) and Cormac Mulvihill putting the visitors three points to the goods before the break. Indeed, they could have had more only for their shooting to let them down a bit and they were also denied a goal when Templenoe keeper Mark Looney made a crucial save in the 17th minute.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-03, Feale Rangers 0-06.
Whatever got said in the Templenoe dressing room at half time had the desired effect with a much-improved display from the hosts in the second half. Killian Spillane made no mistake with two frees before adding a third from play between the 32nd and the 38th minute. However, Feale Rangers kept their noses in front with Cormac Dillon continuing his scoring spree with two more frees. Soon after Templenoe were awarded a penalty when Tadhg Morley made a great burst forward, before he was taken down inside the box. Up stepped Brian Crowley and he did strike his penalty well, but Feale Rangers keeper Jack Enright spread himself brilliantly to deflect his shot out for a 45. Aidan Crowley subsequently converted the 45 to make the score 0-07 to 0-08 approaching the end of the third quarter and it was all to play for.
Both sides made a number of substitutions in the final quarter, among them was John Spillane who make a welcome return to competitive action for Templenoe for the first time in three years. Templenoe kept up their intensity and made it count with four unanswered points between the 47th minute and the 55th minute with their scorer in chief Killian Spillane doing the business from both frees and play before Gavin Crowley scored their last point with a well executed effort. This put Templenoe three points ahead coming into the home stretch. A late surge from Feale Rangers saw them earn two more points through Jack McEilligott and Cormac Dillon, but the hosts held on to maintain their proud unbeaten first round record in the county senior championship since their debut season at this level in 2020.
Final Score: Templenoe 0-11, Feale Rangers 0-10.
Scorers:
Templenoe: Killian Spillane 0-08 (5f), Aidan Crowley 0-01 (1 ’45), Colin Crowley 0-01, Gavin Crowley 0-01.
