Kerry Petroleum Senior Club Championship 2024, Rnd3, Kenmare Shamrocks V Templenoe Match Report
Kerry Petroleum Senior Football Club Championship, Group 1, Round 3.
Kenmare Shamrocks 0-13, Templenoe 0-13.
A draw was enough to see Kenmare Shamrocks join Rathmore in the semi-final stages of the senior club championship by virtue of their head-to-head result against Spa who finished on the same amounts of points. For Templenoe it was case of so close and yet so far in this competition after two draws and one defeat by the narrowest of margins.
There was a very large crowd in attendance for this local derby game. Kenmare Shamrocks won the toss and opted to play into the town end for the first half. But it was Templenoe who shone brightest in the first quarter as they outscored the hosts by 0-01 to 0-05. Some slick play by the visitors saw them open the scoring with Gavin Crowley and Killian Spillane getting them off to a good start. Seanie O’Shea who was closely marked by Tadhg Morley throughout got Kenmare Shamrock’s sole score in the first quarter from a mark. The hosts were forced to make an early substitution after Tommy Cronin had to retire injured and he was replaced by Jack O’Sullivan. Templenoe meanwhile continued their lively start with Aidan Crowley from a 45, Killian Spillane from a free and Brian Crowley from play putting Templenoe four points to the good by the 16th minute.
The second quarter saw Kenmare Shamrocks come much more into the game, while Templenoe just didn’t quite click in the same period with their shooting letting them down. Four unanswered points from the hosts saw them get back level by the break courtesy of scores from Kevin O’Sullivan and Seanie O’Shea with three, two of which came from placed balls.
Half Time Score: Kenmare Shamrocks 0-05, Templenoe 0-05.
On resumption Templenoe pulled two points clear again with Killian Spillane thumping two frees over the bar. Kevin O’Sullivan replied with his second point of the day, but Templenoe with Killian Spillane continuing to cause problems for the Kenmare Shamrocks defence tagged on two more points soon after to open-up a three points gap for the visitors. Kenmare Shamrocks introduced Paul O’Connor to add a bit of experience to their attack and a point from David Hallissey did reduce the margin to two, but Templenoe substitute Patrick Clifford used his pace to good effect to hand pass the ball over the bar to make the score 0-07 to 0-10 by the end of the third quarter.
Kenmare Shamrocks had a good record of turning the contest in their favour against Templenoe down through the years and no-one was doubting their ability to turn this game. Three points from Dara O’Shea, Tommy O’Sullivan Atlantic and Sean O’Shea (f), either side of a Colin Crowley white flag for Templenoe saw the hosts reduce the margin to the minimum as the game entered the home stretch. Tom Murnane levelled the scoring with six minutes left to play and the excitement was palpable. John Rice traded scores with David Ciuciu to level the scores once more and then Ciuciu added another to put Kenmare Shamrocks in front for the first time. Time was fast running out for Templenoe who needed to win this game to have any hope of qualifying, but they just couldn’t find a path to goal and ultimately to had to settle for a draw with Killian Spillane levelling the scores at the death.
Final Score: Kenmare Shamrocks 0-13, Templenoe 0-13.
Scorers:
Kenmare Shamrocks: Seanie O’Shea 0-05 (3f) (1m), David Ciuciu 0-02, Kevin O’Sullivan 0-02, David Hallissey 0-01, Dara O’Shea 0-01, Tommy O’Sullivan (Atlantic) 0-01, Tom Murnane 0-01.

Arthur O’Connor- Templenoe GAA Club President - RIP:
It was with great sadness that the Templenoe GAA Club members learned of the death of one of our club presidents Arthur O’Connor, Derrygarrane on the 30th July 2024. Arthur was a true stalwart of the club and a GAA Gael to the core.
Upon Arthur O’Connor’s return to Derrygarrane from London, he immediately got involved with the Templenoe and Kenmare District senior teams. Arthur was part of the Templenoe senior management teams in 1973 and 1975 which culminated in Templenoe winning the County Novice and Junior titles. In addition, Arthur was a selector with the Kenmare District senior team that delivered the district’s first ever county championship title back in 1974. A man of many talents, he also served as Templenoe GAA Club Chairman from 1975-77 and was heavily involved with the Kenmare Distict Board committee. In later years, Arthur was immensely proud to see Templenoe’s rise from Novice to Senior grade and to witness Templenoe’s All-Ireland Junior and Munster Intermediate success.
Arthur will be sadly missed by all at Templenoe GAA Club and we offer our heartfelt condolences to Sheila, Kevin, Elaine, Dan, Denise and all the extended O’Connor family.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
Kerry Petroleum Senior Football Club Championship:

TG4 All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championship Final:
Huge congratulations to our former underage player Amy Harrington, the Kerry senior ladies footballers and management on their All-Ireland Final win over Galway at Croke Park last Sunday.
Underage Football:
Central Region U15 Division 3 Final Result: Na Fianna 1-11, Castleisland Desmonds 3-09.
Our U15 footballers lost out to Castleisland Desmonds after a highly entertaining game at Kilgarvan GAA Grounds last Wednesday evening. The sides were level at half time 1-6 to 2-3, but a third goal for Desmonds in the second half helped steer them to victory.
Purcell Cup:
The Templenoe over 40s had a credible campaign in the Purcell Cup Tournament last Saturday reaching the final where they narrowly lost to Tuosist after an enjoyable afternoon of football. Well done to all involved and congratulations to Tuosist.
Templenoe GAA Golf Classic 2024:

Kerry Petroleum Senior Club Championship Match Report, Templenoe V Rathmore
Kerry Petroleum Senior Football Club Championship, Group 1, Round 2.
Templenoe 1-11, Rathmore 2-09.
Rathmore have made it through to the semi-final stages of the senior club championship after they withstood a late rally from Templenoe to win by the narrowest of margins at Templenone GAA Grounds on Sunday.
There was a large crowd in attendance for this game. Templenoe had wind advantage for the first half and immediately opened the scoring with a pointed free from Killian Spillane. A few minutes later a counter-attack from Rathmore ended with Andrew Moynihan rising highest to fist the ball to the net after a precision pass across the square from John Moynihan. Killian Spillane replied with another pointed free for Templenoe, but then the hosts suffered a second sucker punch when John Moynihan got goal number 2 for Rathmore, after he finished the ball soccer style to the net. Two minutes later a long range point effort from Adrian Spillane dropped just short with a combination of the goalkeeper and the crossbar keeping it out, but then the vigilant Josh Crowley who kept following the ball in was rewarded when he reacted fastest to palm the ball to the net. Templenoe subsequently added a point from play from Killian Spillane to make the score all square Templenoe 1-03, Rathmore 2-00 at the end of the first quarter.
A purple patch from Rathmore between the 17th minute and 23rd minute saw them hit four unanswered points, with Shane Ryan (2), James Darmody and Fionn Murphy all contributing. It could have been more only for Templenoe keeper Mark Looney to pull off a superb save from Shane Ryan. To their credit Templenoe finished the first half well, with Aidan Crowley from a 45 and Killian Spillane (2) reducing the margin to the minimum once more. However, Templenoe would ultimately regret their six wides tally in the first half, while Rathmore only hit one wide against the wind.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 1-06, Rathmore 2-04.
The third quarter saw Rathmore outscore Templenoe by three points to one, with James Darmody, Shane Ryan (f) and Ciaran Collins all splitting the posts to really put it upto the hosts. In between Adrian Spillane had a goal bound effort cleared from the line, but they did pull one point back with Killian Spillane thumping over a placed ball to make the score 1-07 to 2-07 at the end of the third quarter.
There was still plenty of time, but Templenoe just seemed to be a little over-anxious at times in the second half and had possession turned over on numerous occasions as a result. Nonetheless, no one could question their resolve and two points in quick succession from Adrian Spillane and Aidan Crowley put just one point between the sides with 10 minutes of normal time remaining. Soon after Shane Ryan nailed another free for the visitors, but then was a break in play after an injury to the unfortunate James Darmody of Rathmore, who to be taken off the field on a stretcher. A point from Cathal Ryan three minutes into injury time, looked to have sealed the deal for Rathmore, but Templenoe were not finished and they so nearly had a goal when Sean Sheehan got the ball in a great position only to pull his side wide of the posts. Two pointed frees followed from Killian Spillane which gave Templenoe hope that they could still salvage a result from this game, but it was not to be as Rathmore won possession of the last kick out with that the referee blew for full time.
Final Score: Templenoe 1-11, Rathmore 2-09.
Scorers:
Templenoe: Killian Spillane 0-08 (6f), Josh Crowley Holland 1-00, Aidan Crowley 0-02 (1 “45”), Adrian Spillane 0-01.
Rathmore: Shane Ryan 0-04 (3f), John Moynihan 1-00, Andrew Moynihan 1-00, James Darmody 0-02 (1f), Cathal Ryan 0-01, Fionn Murphy 0-01,Ciaran Collins 0-01.
