John Spillane - RIP
It was with deep sadness that the Templenoe GAA Club members learned on Saturday morning of the sudden and untimely death of John Spillane Snr Dromquinna on the 26th July 2019.
John was a valued member of the Club and a former player, who lined out with the Templenoe Senior football team into his forties. During his playing career with Templenoe, John Spillane won two County Senior Football Leagues and a host of District Board medals. He was a former captain and was part of the Templenoe team that narrowly lost to Dingle in the 1988 County Intermediate Football Final. John also did some underage coaching, which helped lay the foundations for Templenoe’s many successes at Senior level this decade.
John Spillane Snr will be sadly missed by all in Templenoe and the Club wishes to extend sincere sympathy to the Spillane family.
Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

Division 1 County Senior Football League Match Report, Templenoe V Dingle
FT Score: Templenoe 1-12, Dingle 2-16
Dingle were the visitors to a sun drenched Templenoe last Saturday evening and both sides severed up an entertaining game, but ultimately Dingle’s superior power paved the way for them to take a full share of the spoils.
Dingle were first off the blocks with County panellist Conor Geaney popping over two frees inside the first two minutes. Templenoe who not for the first time in this campaign only had 16 players lined out, responded with Kieran McCarthy getting up the field to open the home side’s account. Brian Ó Dubháin added another point for the visitors, before Pat Spillane cut in from the right corner to dispatch the ball to the back of the net, putting the hosts ahead for the first and only time in this match. Three points on the trot from Dingle were countered by Denis O’Neill and Martin Reilly raising white flags for Templenoe. In between, Pat Spillane almost got in for a second goal, only to see his effort come off the post. Seoirse Durrant slotted over a 45 for Dingle, but once again Templenoe replied in kind with the returning Brian Crowley pointing from play. Then came Dingle’s first goal from Conor Geaney to give them a three points cushion that would pretty much put them in the driving seat for the remainder of the contest. The half ended with Conor Geaney and Barra Ó Súilleabháin trading scores with Sean Sheehan and Brian Crowley to leave three points between the sides at the interval.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 1-06, Dingle 1-09.
The second half started with Pat Spillane showing great determination to battle his way through the Dingle defence, before kicking over a neat point for the hosts. The next 10 minutes saw both sides cancel each out with two points each, but then Dingle started getting on top around the middle of the field and they would make their dominance count. Between the 11th minute and the 15th minute, Dingle hit four unanswered points courtesy of Seoirse Durrant (45), Brian Ó Dubháin, Conor Geaney and Barra Ó Súilleabháin to extend their lead to five points. Soon after, the visitors put the game to bed when a precision pass from Niall Ó Géibheannaigh to Seoirse Durrant resulted in the latter fisting the ball to the net from close range for Dingle’s second goal. Conor Geaney added another point for the West Kerrymen in what turned out to be their last score, but they had already done enough to bag the brace of county league points on offer. Templenoe though to their credit did finish the game strongly with Brian Crowley (2 frees) and Pat Spillane reducing the margin to seven points before the final whistle.
Final Score: Templenoe 1-12, Dingle 2-16.

Division 1 County Senior Football League Match Report, Templenoe V Austin Stacks
Templenoe 2-02, Austin Stacks 2-23.
It was another difficult evening at the office for the Intermediate Champions, suffering a heavy defeat at home to a powerful Austin Stacks side. Templenoe still have four County League games left to play to save their place in Division 1, but it appears they will have to win all four to have any hope of staying up.
Templenoe had the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and although player numbers remain very tight for the home side, they did welcome back the services of Patrick Clifford and Denis O’Neill for this encounter. Darragh O’Brien and Donagh McKivergan opened the scoring for the visitors, before a good team move involving Kieran McCarthy and Denis O’Neill put through Stephen O’Sullivan for Templenoe‘s first goal. The hosts then rocked the Stacks with a second goal, after Stephen O’Sullivan delivered a high ball in towards the goal, that was fisted to the net by the in rushing John Moriarty. This made the score 2-00 to 0-02 after 7 minutes of play. Austin Stacks gradually reeled in this lead with three unanswered points, before the 20th minute. Templenoe though remained competitive in this spell, but were guilty of a few wides, as were the visitors. Then disaster struck for Templenoe, when they were reduced to fourteen players when Stephen O'Sullivan was sent off, and from here on there was only going to be one winner. A goal from Shane O’Callaghan in the 22nd minute set Austin Stacks on their way. They added four more scores before the break, while Templenoe just managed a solitary point courtesy of John Spillane.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 2-01, Austin Stacks 1-09.
The second half was now going to be damage limitation exercise for Templenoe, playing with fourteen men against the breeze and facing an Austin Stacks side intent on turning the screw. By the end of the third quarter, Austin Stacks racked up another six points on the trot to make the score 2-01 to 1-15, with Darragh O’Brien, Shane Carroll (2), Pa McCarthy, Colin Griffin and Micheal O’Gara all finding the range. Things would not improve for Templenoe, who’s only score in the second half came from a placed ball effort from John Rice. Austin Stacks kept their foot on the pedal and before the finish they ramped up the scores, with further points from Ferdia O’ Brien, David Fitzmaurice, Micheal O’Gara and Sean Quilter before Darragh O’Brien crowned off their comprehensive win with a second goal for the visitors late on.
Final Score: Templenoe 2-02, Austin Stacks 2-23.
