Division 1 County Senior Football League Match Report, Templenoe V St Mary's
Templenoe 1-12, St Mary’s 1-7.
Templenoe commenced their fourth consecutive year in Division 1 with a five points win at home to St Mary’s Cahersiveen last Sunday.
The visitors were first off the mark will two points from play through Darren Casey and Denis Daly. But Templenoe who had the aid of a very strong breeze in the first half, hit back with the next six points on the trot. The first of these scores came from Brian Crowley, before Stephen O’Sullivan converted a free after the former was fouled. Then Killian Spillane added two more points, either side of a superb score from John Rice from an acute angle. Pat Spillane made the score 0-6 to 0-2, after he split the posts in the 10th minute. Soon after former Kerry star Bryan Sheehan beautifully landed a placed ball from over 30 yards out for St Mary’s. In the second quarter Templenoe continued to dominate, but their shooting left them down them at times, hitting no less than six wides in the first half. Yet, Stephen O’Sullivan did keep the scoreboard ticking over with another pointed free. Templenoe were almost in for a goal in the 21st minute, but a Killian Spillane effort was well saved by Keeper Michael Daly, however Templenoe managed to recover possession for Killian Spillane to slot the ball over the bar from a little further out. The away side had a strong finished to the first half, with Bryan Sheehan thumping over another free, before a dropped short effort at a point by Muiris Fitzgerald was deflected into the net by Mark Quigley. This put the visitors in a good position going in at the interval
Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-8, St Mary’s. 1-4.
St Marys were dealt a major blow at half time, after it emerged that County Panalist Denis Daly could play no further part after he picked up an injury. Despite playing against the strong breeze, the home side would go on to give a much better performance in the second half. As they controlled the game, although they did have some frustrating periods and found it difficult to manufacture scores against the gale force wind. Pat Spillane put Patrick Clifford through for Templenoe’s opening score in the second half, before Daniel Daly and Stephen O’Sullivan traded points. In between, a Killian Spillane effort at goal hit the post, Josh Crowley Holland did finish the rebound to the net, but the referee however had already blown his whistle for a free out. Then on the 18th minute came the goal Templenoe were searching for all through. It came about after Gavin Crowley got into a great position and although his shot was once again well saved by Michael Daly, the rebounded effort was despatched to the net yet again by the vigilant Josh Crowley Holland and this time his effort did stand. This put daylight between the sides with Templenoe now ahead by 1-10 to 1-5. Templenoe consolidated their position with two points from Stephen O’Sullivan coming into the final stretch. St Mary kept fighting to the end and two points from Brian Sheehan did reduce the arrears to five points, but Templenoe had already done enough to secure two valuable county league points.

South Kerry League Final Match Report, Templenoe V Waterville
Templenoe 4-08, Waterville 2-10
Templenoe won their first ever South Kerry League title with an exciting victory over Waterville on a very windy evening in Derrynane GAA Grounds. Following a prolonged period of rain the ground was very heave but held up well for the sixty minutes.
Templenoe played with the wind in the first half, but struggled to utilize this advantage, and it was actually Waterville who opened up the scoring with a point from Oran Clifford. Templenoe had to wait until the eight minute to register their first point with a Brian Crowley pointed free. Patrick Clifford and Brian Crowley quickly added further scores but Barry O’Dwyer responded with a free for Waterville. Templenoe had already worked two clear goal chances but both were saved. Waterville were far more clinical in front of goal and did not kick a wide in the half.
Barry O’Dwyer added another free on the twentieth minute, and this was followed by a frantic minute of play when a well worked Waterville goal by Eoin O’Sullivan was cancelled out by a John Rice goal sixty seconds later. The Templenoe goal swept straight down the field from Danny Cahalane’s kick out, to Pat Spillane and ended up with goal scorer John Rice to finish to the net.
A Stephen O’Sullivan pointed free for Templenoe preceded Waterville’s second goal which was finished to the net by Jamie O’Sullivan. Pat Spillane closed out the scoring of the half leaving the interval score Templenoe 1-05, Waterville 2-03. Templenoe kicked six wides during the half.
Brian Crowley kicked the first two points of the second half as Templenoe started much better against the wind, but Waterville replied with points by Sam O’Dwyer and Barry O’Dwyer. Pat Spillane finished off a good move involving Patrick Clifford and Martin Reilly to score Templenoe’s second goal and following a Barry O’Dwyer free, Martin Reilly kicked a rebounded effort off the ground to the net to leave the score on the 42nd minute, Templenoe 3-07, Waterville 2-06.
Barry O’Dwyer kicked two frees to reduce the arrears coming into the last quarter, and a further long range point by Eoin O’Sullivan of Waterville left a point in the difference. The decisive score came with five minutes remaining when Pat Spillane scored his second goal. Waterville again responded with an Oran Clifford point but Pat Spillane closed out the scoring with a well taken point from a tight angle leaving Templenoe victorious on a score of Templenoe 4-08, Waterville 2-10.
