Roger Casements GAA, Coventry
Roger Casements GAA of Coventry are a club with a very special connection with Templenoe GAA Club. The late Timmy Clifford Snr used to line out with them in the 70's and actually captained their Championship winning side of 1978.
The club is celebrating their 60th year anniversary, and as part of their celebrations, they are visiting Templenoe this weekend (18th June). They will play Templenoe on Sunday afternoon at 1pm for the honour of winning the Tim Clifford Memorial Cup. This will be followed by a BBQ in the Ring of Kerry Golf Club (€15).
They also plan to visit Banna Strand to mark the 100 years of the Easter Rising and the landing of Roger Casement, and will be present for Templenoe's Division1 County Senior Football League match against Glenbeigh / Glencar on Saturday evening.
The club would like to extend a warm welcome to all members of Roger Casements, and hope they enjoy their weekend. We would like all Templenoe members to attand the matches and further extend this welcome to Roger Casements.

Div1 County SFL, Templenoe V Milltown / Castlemaine
Templenoe 0-12, Milltown/Castlemaine 0-12
An injury time free from Jonathan O’Sullivan earned Milltown Castlemaine a share of the spoils, in an entertaining game played in damp conditions in Templenoe last Saturday evening.
Milltown Castlemaine opened the scoring with 2 converted frees from Jonathan O’Sullivan. Killian Spillane replied with a free for Templenoe, before the visitors extended their lead with 3 unanswered points all from the boot of Jonathan O’Sullivan. Templenoe almost had a goal when Denis O’Neill broke through the defence, but his shot went narrowly wide. The same player immediately got a point with his next possession. Then Jonathan O’Sullivan and Killian Spillane traded scores from frees, before Sean Sheehan raised a white flag with a good effort on the run. Stephen O’Sullivan reduced the deficit further with a pointed free, after Killian Spillane was fouled. Milltown Castlemaine hit back with 2 frees through the unerring accuracy of Jonathan O’Sullivan. Templenoe had the last say in the half with Killian Spillane hitting the target to leave the score at the interval: Templenoe 0-6 Milltown Castlemaine 0-8
Both teams were slow to settle initially in the 2nd half. Then 7 minutes in Teddy Doyle landed a 45 over the bar. After this, Templenoe hit a purple patch and went on to get scores from Sean Sheehan and Josh Holland, before corner back Joseph Sheehan put the home side in front for the first time. Templenoe extended their advantage with a good point from Pat Spillane after he was put through by his cousin John Spillane. However the visitors held their composure and replied with a well taken score from a Shane Murphy, before Jonathan O’Sullivan added a free to level the scores to set up an exciting finish. With time almost up Danny Cahalane hit the target with a great effort from the right wing. Despite Templenoe’s best efforts to close out the game, Milltown Castlemaine earned a free from 45 yards out, which was calmly slotted over the bar by Jonathan O’Sullivan to give them the equalizer!

Division1 County SFL, Dingle V Templenoe
Division1 County SFL, Dingle V Templenoe
Dingle 2-11, Templenoe 3-10.
Templenoe who were short a number of first team starters due to injury and county commitments, did not know what to expect when they travelled back to Dingle for round 4 of the County Senior Football League. They did find that Dingle were short a quantity of players also on a beautiful and warm June Bank Holiday weekend.
Dingle started the match with a bang and had scored a goal on the 1st minute when Matthew Flaherty picked up on a rebounding ball to finish to the net. The breeze during the match blew across field and did little to help either teams. Templenoe settled into the match much quicker and some great attacking play from the inside forward line brought them right back into the match. After two pointed frees, a Pat Spillane long pass found Stephen O’Sullivan who turned his man and kicked a great goal. Soon after Stephen followed this up with a great point on the run. On the 10 minute mark, Templenoe were leading on a score of 1-03 to 1-00.
Liam Brosnan kicked the first point from the home team to start a good 10 minute period of pressure. Soon after a foul by Josh Holland resulted in a black card, and the resulting free was pointed. They followed up with another two pointed frees. The last 5 minutes of the half witnessed two points by Templenoe. Sean Sheehan and Stephen O’Sullivan were the scorers, but the visitors had passed up on a few further opportunities for goals.
The 2nd half opened up in the same fashion as the 1st with a goal at the dressing room end. This time it was a Templenoe goal, and a great turn and run at goal by Killian Spillane made space for Stephen O’Sullivan to volley the pass to the net. This was exactly what Templenoe needed, as the next ten minutes saw Dingle peg back the Templenoe lead. Brendan Kelleher kicked two points in a row (1 free) in that period and was collecting a lot of breaks around midfield for the home side. A further point from Cathal Bambury reduced the arrears to a single point, but a rare Templenoe attack saw a great one handed catch by Sean Sheehan, who passed to Pat Spillane and his long ball found Denis O’Neill who scored a great goal. This brought more breathing space for Templenoe with 20 minutes left in the match.
Barry O’Sullivan responded with a quick point for Dingle, and soon after a defensive mix up by the visitors put Cathal Bambury through who scored a goal to tie up the game on a score of Dingle 2-08, Templenoe 3-05. A free by Liam Brosnan put Dingle ahead, but Templenoe responded with a monster point from Adrian Spillane from out on the right wing. Dingle again attacked but this were turned over near the Templenoe goal, and somehow Mike Hallissey worked the ball out to midfield through a forest of players. The ball fell to Pat Spillane who kicked Templenoe back into the lead with a point.
Two errors by Dingle yielded further points for Templenoe. One was a line ball from a kick out that Stephen O’Sullivan pointed from the resulting attack, and the other was a pass out of defence that was pounced on by Sean Sheehan to kick a point. Denis O’Neill further extended Templenoe’s lead to four points with a point from play.
The final two scores came the way of the home side, but despite pressurizing for a goal, Templenoe did not give up any obvious opportunities and emerged victorious on a score of Dingle 2-11, Templenoe 3-10.
Templenoe scorers: Stephen O’Sullivan 2-04, Denis O’Neill 1-01, Sean Sheehan 0-02, Killian Spillane 0-01, Pat Spillane 0-01, Adrian Spillane 0-01
