Div2 County SFL, Kenmare V Templenoe
Kenmare 1-14, Templenoe 1-08
A huge crowd came out to witness Templenoe play Kenmare for the Round 6 of the County Senior Football League. The match was played on a very pleasant Saturday evening, but there was a very difficult breeze blowing across the pitch that only barely helped the team playing into the town end.
Templenoe had a very bright start, and their first point yielded a point from a free by Killian Spillane. Kenmare soon responded with a point from Patrick O’Shea, but the early exchanges saw both teams guilty of wasteful play.
It took until the 12th minute for the next score with Killian Spillane scoring from play. Kenmare responded with a Paul O’Connor point from a free. Both teams again swapped scores, with Cian Hallissey and Paul O’Connor responding again with a free. This was to be Templenoe’s last score of the half , and with Kenmare looking very dangerous in attack, they kicked a series of points in the last ten minutes of the half to retire at the interval with a lead of Kenmare 0-10, Templenoe 0-03.
Paul O’Connor was the chief scorer of the half with 0-8 points. Patrick O’Shea scoring the other two including a great point from way out on the right wing.
Templenoe came out in the 2nd half determined to do better, but the home side extended their lead with two more points before Cian Hallissey kicked Templenoe’s first point. Templenoe continued to press, but took some poor shots. They worked themselves a lifeline on the 44th minute when Adrian Spillane goaled.
Templenoe scored the following point from a Cian Hallissey free, but a great run from Kenmare Midfielder David Hallissey, saw his shot on goal rebound out to Sean O’Leary who finished to the net. This left the scoreline with 10 minutes to play, Kenmare 1-12, Templenoe 1-05.
The last ten minutes saw Templenoe try to pull back into the game. The scored three points in this period, but the final whistle saw the home side deserving winners on a score of Kenmare 1-14, Templenoe 1-08.

Div 2 County SFL, Templenoe V Spa
Templenoe 5-14, Spa 4-04
Goals were the order of the day, and on a pleasant Saturday evening, we were treated to nine of them as Templenoe played host to Spa in round 5 of the Senior County Football League.
Both teams struggled in front of the posts in the opening tem minutes, kicking numerous wides. Danny Cahalane opened Templenoe’s scoring with a point, but Spa quickly responded with their first goal of the match from wing back Shane Cronin. Soon after a long ball was well caught by Adrian Spillane who was subsequently hauled down in the square. Brian Crowley dispatched the resulting penalty to put Templenoe ahead.
On the fifteenth minute, the visitors wing back, Shane Lynch received a black card, and the next attack yielded a point for Templenoe through Patrick Clifford who was operating out of the centre back position. Aidan Fleming who was the black card replacement kicked a good point on the run to leave the score Templenoe 1-02, Spa 1-01.
Spa were getting the better of the exchanges around midfield, and were unlucky not to score a goal when they rattled the crossbar from an opportunity straight in front of the posts. Soon after Spa did get their second goal when Cormac Cronin sped in from the left hand side and finished to the net. Spa quickly followed this up with a point from midfielder Andrew Garnett.
Templenoe fought back well for the last ten minutes of the half, and scored their second goal through Josh Holland. After a few missed opportunities, Templenoe pointed three more times from Josh Holland, Sean Sheehan and Patrick Clifford to leave the half time score, Templenoe 2-06, Spa 2-03.
Spa’s first attack of the second half nearly ended in a goal only for a great diving block from Gavin Crowley. They continued to press for the first few minutes, but did not produce a score. Shane Cremin scored a lovely point from the right hand side with Templenoe’s first attack of the half. Templenoe kicked a few poor wides, but stretched their lead when Cian Hallissey caught the ball in midfield, played a one-two and finished the ball to the net. Very quickly afterwards, a poorly placed pass in the Spa defence ended with Brian Crowley scoring Templenoe’s fourth goal.
Templenoe were now leading on a score of 4-07 to 2-03 and Cian Hallissey continued his good form with a point from play that tipped the crossbar on the way over. With plenty of time left, Spa scored their third goal when Liam Kearney punched a dropping free to the net. The visitors continued to push for goals and passed up on some good point taking opportunities. Templenoe were far more economical with their chances, and scored points from John Rice, Cian Hallissey and Danny Cahalane.
With ten minutes to go, another high ball caused Templenoe problems, and Cormac Cronin punched to the net for his second goal of the match. This proved to be Spa’s last score of the match. Teddy Doyle took the ball on from the 45 meter line, brushed past two defenders to score a great individual goal. Templenoe closed out the match with points from Josh Holland, Martin Reilly, John Rice and Danny Cahalane to emerge comfortable winners on a score of Templenoe 5-14, Spa 4-04

Group 7 County JFL, Glenbeigh / Glencar B V Templenoe B
Glenbeigh / Glencar B 4-05, Templenoe B 1-14
The Templenoe B team finally got their season underway with an away fixture to Glenbeigh / Glencar on Friday evening. Conditions were ideal for football, with a dry pitch and a very mild breeze.
Templenoe had the better of the exchanges in the first half, but had to overcome the concession of an early goal scored by the Glenbeigh / Glencar full forward. Through a dominant display from the visitor’s midfield, Templenoe picked off a series of points throughout the half, and the half time whistle saw a scoreline of Glenbeigh / Glencar 1-02, Templenoe 0-08. Danny Cahalane scored the pick of the points in the first half.
Templenoe continued to dominate for the opening period of the second half, and a scoring cameo from Martin Reilly, who notched 1-01 in the space of a minute, seemed to set the visitors up for a comfortable victory.
Coming into the last ten minutes Templenoe were still in control, but the concession of three goals to Glenbeigh / Glencar in this period saw the home team pull off a very unlikely draw.
Templenoe Team:
Tommy Granville, Jonathan Egan, Kieran O’Neill, Mike Jones, John Rice, Joey Sheehan, Kieran McCarthy, Shane Cremin, Donal Casey, Martin Reilly, John Moriarity, Padraig O’Sullivan, Patrick Palmer, Danny Cahalane, Noel O’Sullivan.
