Credit Union County SFL Match Report, Templenoe V Glenbeigh / Glencar
County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 5.
Templenoe 1-07, Glenbeigh-Glencar 0-15
The Templenoe senior footballers suffered their first defeat in 2023 at the hands of Glenbeigh-Glencar in Templenoe last Saturday evening. It was lacklustre display by Templenoe on the night against a much hungrier Glenbeigh-Glencar side determined to reverse the result of the corresponding fixture from last year.
On fine evening for football, the hosts actually started well and raced into a 0-03 to 0-00 lead after seven minutes, with two placed balled from Stephen O’Sullivan and Aidan Crowley, before the latter put over another from play from a tight angle. Glenbeigh-Glencar responded with Caolim Teahan (f) and Gavan O’Grady (f) both splitting the posts. Then great work by Sean Sheehan put through Stephen O’Sullivan on goal and he did everything right only to see his effort come off the base of the post. It was a let off to the visitors, who despite this were coming more and more into the game. Two points from Liam Smith and Gavin O’Grady (f) saw Glenbeigh-Glencar take the lead for the first time to make the score 0-03 to 0-04 after 15 minutes. Both sides exchanged a few wides, before Templenoe wing back Ciaran Crowley showed great confidence to take on the Glenbeigh-Glencar defence before rifling the ball to the net for a well taken goal. However, the visitors regrouped quickly and responded admirably with three unanswered points to retake the lead courtesy of scores from Caolim Teahan (2) and Gavan O’Grady. Templenoe were struggling to ignite but did get the final score of the half through a converted free from Stephen O’Sullivan.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 1-04, Glenbeigh-Glencar 0-07
The third quarter saw Glenbeigh-Glencar hit the ground running and blitz Templenoe with seven points on the trot, with Jack Brosnan, Gavan O’Grady (5) and Darran O’Sullivan all contributing. In between, the visitors also nearly had goal, but were denied by a great Mark Looney save. Also, worth mentioning that the Glenbeigh-Glencar shooting throughout was very good, they only hit four wides, while Templenoe had six with less possession. The hosts did have a brief respite midway through the second half with Stephen O’Sullivan and Patrick Clifford both finding the target to make the score 1-06 to 0-14. However, a comeback never looked likely, with Glenbeigh-Glencar very organised getting plenty of bodies back when on the defensive and as a result Templenoe were unable to work an opening for much needed goal to bring them back into the game. Glenbeigh-Glencar closed out the contest with another Gavin O’Grady score to cap a fine performance with his ninth score of the evening, while Aidan Crowley thumped over a free for Templenoe’s last score.

Credit Union County SFL Match Report, Beaufort V Templenoe
Credit Union County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 4.
Beaufort 0-14, Templenoe 2-08.
An equalizing point from Killian Spillane shortly before the full-time whistle, saw Templenoe maintain their unbeaten run as do Beaufort in this year’s county league with four rounds played. It was absorbing game of football, played in ideal conditions at Beaufort GAA Grounds last Sunday, with no less than four Kerry senior panelists featuring, Mike Breen for Beaufort, Adrian Spillane, Gavin Crowley, and Killian Spillane (second half) for Templenoe.
Beaufort opened the scoring through their sharpshooter Liam Carey. However, two minutes later Templenoe had the ball in the net, when a high ball in was gathered by Aidan Crowley who offloaded to his brother Daniel for a well-executed goal. Templenoe quickly built on this with Stephen O’Sullivan and two scores on the trot from Adrian Spillane extending the visitors lead to five points 8 minutes in. Beaufort did create goal chances in the first half too but were denied by a block from Sean Sheehan for one of their chances, while Mark Looney spread himself well to prevent Fergal Hallissey rattling the net on another occasion. Nonetheless, four unanswered points from the hosts between the 10th minute and the 19th minute courtesy of Fergal Hallissey (2f), Liam Carey and a point from a mark through Darragh O’Connor saw Beaufort reduce the arrears to just the minimum, with the scoreboard reading 0-05 to 1-03 after 19 minutes of action. Templenoe rallied again with Patrick Clifford next to raise a white flag after he wisely hand passed the ball over the bar. Then came the visitors second goal of the day, in a move that stemmed from a perfect ball in from Gavin Crowley to Adrian Spillane who had only one thing on his mind and made no mistake with his finish. Beaufort refused to let their heads drop though and responded well with Danny Healy and Liam Carey both splitting the posts to keep the contest well alive at the break.
Half Time Score: Beaufort 0-07, Templenoe 2-04.
Templenoe had a trick up their sleeve with Killian Spillane introduced for the second half and he was less than a minute on the field before he got his name on the scoresheet with a pointed free. Colin Crowley added another soon after to put Templenoe five points to the good again. But the hosts battled their way back into it once more with Liam Carey and two placed balls from Fergal Hallissey reducing the margin to two points to make the score 0-10 to 2-06 after 42 minutes. Both sides were going all out for it now and Beaufort keeper Sean Coffey made two good stops with his long reach to pull down two Templenoe efforts that appeared to be going over the crossbar. Killian Spillane traded scores with fellow Kerry panelist Mike Breen, before Beaufort substitute Jack O’Connor reduced the margin to just one point with nine minutes left to play. Then coming into the home stretch Liam Carey with his fifth point of the game, followed by another from Jack O’Connor looked like snatching this game for Beaufort. However Killian Spillane proved how crucial his presence was when he took on responsibility to get hold of possession near the end line and fire over the equalizing point on the stroke of full time.
Final Score: Beaufort 0-14, Templenoe 2-08.
Scorers:
