Div2 County SFL Match Report, Castleisland Desmonds V Templenoe
County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 9.
Castleisland Desmonds 2-07, Templenoe 1-10.
A pointed free from Colin Crowley shortly before the referee blew for full time secured a share of the spoils for Templenoe away to Division 1 bound Castleisland Desmonds last Saturday evening. Fair to say the visitors gutsy performance over the hour of football deserved no less. This result also puts Templenoe in with a good chance of staying up in Division 2 with just two more county league games remaining
Templenoe had the advantage of a strong breeze for the first half and they used it excellently in the first quarter to race into 0-00 to 1-06 lead by the 14th minute. Stephen O’Sullivan opened the scoring with a free, then the two Crowley brothers Brian and Colin (f) both landed long distance efforts to put Templenoe three points to the good. A minute later came Templenoe’s goal in a move that stemmed from a Colin Crowley sideline, the ball broke to Jason O’Shea who was starting his first competitive game for the Templenoe seniors, his shot hit the base of the post. Templenoe quickly recycled and Stephen O’Sullivan showed great skill to finish the ball to the net after been put through on goal. The visitors consolidated their position with further scores from Brian Crowley, Stephen O’Sullivan and Josh Crowley Holland to complete the dream opening quarter. Adam Donoghue opened Castleisland Desmonds account with a badly need score in the 15th minute. Colin Crowley did nail another free for Templenoe shortly after, but Castleisland were now starting to come more into the game. Luke Lyons added a second point for the hosts and then came Desmonds first goal following a patient build up which ended with Cian W O’Connor dispatching the ball to the net. Two converted frees from Adam O’Donoghue reduced the margin to just three point ahead of the interval.
Half Time Score: Castleisland Desmonds 1-04, Templenoe 1-07.
It was all to play for, the breeze did die down a bit for the second half, but the question was could the visitors hold out against the likely fightback from the hosts. The Desmonds hit a wide and a short just after the restart, before Colin Crowley put over another placed ball for Templenoe. Then there was goal mouth action at both ends with Desmonds Adam O’Donoghue forcing a save from Mark Looney, while Templenoe’s Stephen O’Sullivan saw his effort for a second goal come off the upright. The Desmonds made another burst at goal with substitute Pat Fitzgerald attempting a pile driver, his shot was blocked, but the referee deemed the block illegal and a penalty resulted. Adam O’Donoghue made no mistake with the spot kick to make the score 2-04 to 1-08 after 41 minutes of action. Credit to Templenoe, similar to the Beaufort game the previous week they answered the setback with a score of their own immediately after with Colin Crowley slotting over another free. However, the game did look like it might slip from Templenoe’s grasp when points from Adam O’Donoghue and Maurice Hickey levelled the scores by the 52nd minute. In the ensuing passages of play, Templenoe (2) and Castleisland (1) both had wides, before Luke Brosnan put the Desmonds in the ascendancy for the first time to make for an exciting finish. There was time for one last Templenoe attack and they used the ball well to draw a foul from the Desmonds defence for the unerring Colin Crowley to grab the equalizer.
Final Score: Castleisland Desmonds 2-07, Templenoe 1-10.
Scorers:
Castleisland Desmonds: Adam O’Donoghue 1-03 (1-00p) (2f), Cian W O’Connor 1-00, Luke Lyons 0-01, Maurice Hickey 0-01, Luke Brosnan 0-01, Adam Donoghue 0-01

Div 2 County SFL Round 8 Match Report, Templenoe V Beaufort
County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 8.
Templenoe 1-11, Beaufort 1-09.
Templenoe earned another two valuable county league points at home against Beaufort on a damp evening in round 8 of the competition. Ironically, it was the hosts first win on home soil in this year’s county league. Templenoe had to do it the hard way though, trailing by five with eleven minutes of normal time remaining, but credit to the players they kept battling, and came good when it mattered most to defy the odds.
Beaufort started the brighter with Sean O’Brien and Liam Carey putting them two points to the good inside the opening five minutes. Beaufort dominated the exchanges in the first quarter but failed to make it count on the scoreboard, hitting at least five wides in this spell. At the other end, Templenoe had chances too, but their efforts were either dropping short or going wide. Liam Carey with a point from play and a point from a mark extended the visitors lead to four points, before Templenoe finally raised their first white flag of the evening through Sean Sheehan twenty minutes in. Further points immediately followed with Stephen O’Sullivan and Aidan Crowley both landing frees to make it 0-03 to 0-04 after twenty-three minutes. Beaufort upped the ante again to pull three points clear courtesy of Kieran Dennehy and Ronan Murphy, but Templenoe were keeping with them and responded with Aidan Crowley slotting over his second free.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-04, Beaufort 0-06.
Shortly after the restart, Colin Crowley brought Templenoe back to within a point of the visitors kicking a lovely long range score. The game then entered another period of stalemate, but this time it was mostly Templenoe that were guilty of squandering chances up front. Beaufort’s Fergal Hallissey made no such mistakes with two converted frees in the 41st and 44th minutes. Stephen O’Sullivan eventually ended Templenoe scoring drought with a free to reduce the margin back to two points mid-way through the second half. Soon after the match took a dramatic turn, when Beaufort were awarded a penalty after Sean O’Brien was adjudged to have been fouled. Centre forward Danny Healy dispatched the spot kick with aplomb to make it 0-6 to 1-08. The hosts reply was imminent with Sean Sheehan using his experience well to calmly pop over a point and keep the home side in contention. Stephen O’Sullivan added another free, but then Beaufort substitute Jonathan Kissane looked to have sealed Templenoe faith with point to make it 0-08 to 1-09 with only five minutes of normal time left to play. Then came the fight back, with Kieran McCarthy getting forward to split the posts, before a great team move started by Stephen O’Sullivan ended with a fist pass across the square with Josh Crowley Holland rising highest to palm the ball to the net. Suddenly the score was 1-09 apiece. Templenoe sensed blood and less than a minute later Brian Crowley put the hosts in front for the first time after 57 minutes of play. Beaufort came close to equalizing, but it just wasn’t their night, Aidan Crowley secured the win with the last kick of the game from a placed ball.
Final Score: Templenoe 1-11, Beaufort 1-09.

Division 2 County Senior Football League Match Report, Glenbeigh/Glencar V Templenoe
County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 7.
Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-06, Templenoe 0-17.
A very good all round team performance saw Templenoe deservingly come away from Glenbeigh with two valuable County League points last Sunday.
Templenoe had wind advantage for the first half on a fine afternoon for football with the visitors playing excellently in the opening period, lording it midfield and leading by 0-00 to 0-06 after just eight minutes of play. Mark Looney converted a 45 after a Stephen O’Sullivan shot at goal was deflected out over the end line. Then Stephen O’Sullivan himself planted two frees over the bar either side of a Daniel Crowley white flag, before a brace of points from the in form Colin Crowley completed the perfect start. It took 14 minutes for Glenbeigh/Glencar to register their first score, which came courtesy of a Caoilim Teahan effort. But the home side were now starting to get their hands on more possession and they followed this up with three unanswered points from Tommy Cahill (f), Darren O’Sullivan (f) and Dara Casey to reduce the margin to just two points by the 23rd minute. However, Templenoe regrouped quickly with Stephen O’Sullivan firing over two points from play to keep the sides at arm’s length, to which Glenbeigh/Glencar responded with Daniel Griffin and Adrian O’Connor splitting the posts.
Half Time Score: Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-06, Templenoe 0-08.
With only two points between the sides and with the second half to play, it was anyone’s game. Templenoe started the brighter again after the restart with Brian Crowley and Daniel Crowley restoring their lead to four points. The game was then blown wide open when a Glenbeigh/Glencar free came off the top of the post, Tommy Cahill reacted quickest and was fouled to earn the hosts a penalty. Cahill calmly dispatched the spot kick and suddenly there was only a point between the sides after 36 minutes. Little did anyone think especially with the introduction of Gavan O’Grady minutes later, that this would be Glenbeigh/Glencar’s last score of the game. Good defending, positioning, tracking, ball retention combined with composed and patient play up front all formed the basis for Templenoe to run out eight points winners. The visitors shooting was very good throughout only hitting 4 wides compared to 10 for Glenbeigh/Glencar. Between the 44th minute and the final whistle Templenoe hit seven points without reply from Colin Crowley (3), Adrian Crowley (3) (2f) and Daniel Crowley. Glenbeigh’s cause was not helped when they lost Liam Roche to a black card in the 54th minute, but there was no doubting that Templenoe were full value for their win. With four more rounds of the county league still to be played, this result and performance was a timely boost to Templenoe’s hopes of survival in Division 2.
Final Score: Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-06, Templenoe 0-17.
Scorers:
Glenbeigh/Glencar: Tommy Cahill 1-01 (1p) (1f), Adrian O’Connor 0-01, Dara Casey 0-01, Caoilim Teahan 0-01, Darren O’Sullivan 0-01 (1f), Daniel Griffin 0-01.

Div2 County SFL Match Report, Templenoe V Kilcummin
County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 6.
Templenoe 0-11, Kilcummin 2-13.
Templenoe faced table toppers Kilcummin at home in round 6 of the County League last Saturday evening. Two second half goals set the visitors on their way to maintain their 100% record, with six wins out of six. Credit to Jack O’Connor and his selectors though, they did release two of our County players Gavin Crowley and Killian Spillane for this fixture
The game was played on a glorious evening with a big enough crowd in attendance. Stephen O’Sullivan opened the scoring with a pointed free for the hosts, but Kilicummin immediately responded with Paul O’Shea causing problems for the Templenoe defence early on. O’Shea who was deployed at full forward hit three points in the first five minutes forcing Templenoe to adapt a sweeper system to curve his influence. In between, Templenoe’s Stephen O’Sullivan added a second free. There wasn’t much between the sides in the first half, but Kilcummin did look the more dangerous going forward. Noel Duggan and Killian Spillane exchanged frees mid-way through the first half, before Dara O’Callaghan and a fine score from Kevin McCarthy put the visitors three points clear. Killian Spillane then showed his class with wonderful score from a difficult angle just before the break.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-04, Kilcummin 0-06.
Kevin McCarthy and Killian Spillane traded scores again just after the restart. Then came the game’s first goal from Kilcummin with Philip O’Leary finishing perfectly after he was played through by Kevin McCarthy. Noel Duggan instantly followed this up for the East Kerry side with a point from play, to make the score 0-05 to 1-08 after 34 minutes of action. Aidan Crowley responded with a well taken score for the hosts. Templenoe needed more however and they nearly did so when a smart team move ended with Colin Crowley getting inside the defence from the right corner only to see his effort go agonisingly across the face of the goal. A green flag for the hosts at that stage would have reduced the margin to two points. Kilcummin heeded the warning and launched a high ball into their danger man Paul O’Shea, who was adjudged to have been fouled in the square with the referee awarding a penalty. O’Shea expertly converted the spot kick to extend their lead to eight points and there really was no way back for Templenoe from there. The hosts did have more goal scoring opportunities later on, but it was just not to be on the night. Kevin McCarthy added further scores to his tally, before Mark O’Shea chipped in with a brace of points of his own. While Killian Spillane kept the scoreboard ticking over for Templenoe with a few placed balls and a mark in between. The game ended with Shane McSweeney and Mark Looney from a 45 exchanging scores before the referee blew for full time.
Final Score: Templenoe 0-11, Kilcummin 2-13
Scorers:
