Templenoe 0-18, St Pats Blennerville 1-12

Templenoe emerged victorious, after a high scoring match played in perfect conditions in Templenoe Gaa grounds on Saturday evening.

Templenoe opened the scoring with two points from Killian Spillane, which was replied to by a free from Andy Byrne for St Pats. Both teams swapped scores through Sean Sheehan and Kieran Hurley, before Kieran Hurley punched a goal to the net after a great run by Jake Foley. The score after 15 minutes was Templenoe 0-03, St Pats 1-02.

Kieran McCarthy scored a very good long range point for the Home side, but St Pats increased their lead through scores from Luke Mulligan and Kieran Hurley. A long ball was well won by Killian Spillane, but St Pats goalie Paudi Bailey pulled off a great double save to keep the home side goalless. Cian Hallissey pointed the resulting 45’ from a quickly worked move.

Andy Byrne scored another free to put a goal between the sides, but Templenoe finished off the first half the strongest, and got six points through Cian Hallissey, Killian Spillane, Denis O’Neill, Brian Crowley and Adrian Spillane. The Half time score was Templenoe 0-11, St Pats 1-05

Kieran Hurley fired the first point of the second half, which was responded to by scores from Sean Sheehan and Cian Hallissey. Both teams exchanged points which was followed by a superb point by Liam O’Sullivan who sliced over a line ball for the visitors. Templenoe again responded through a Killian Spillane free, to leave the score on 40 minutes, Templenoe 0-15, St Pats 1-08.

St Pats tagged on the next two scores through Liam Sullivan and Kieran Hurley, but good Templenoe attacking saw further scores from Killian Spillane and Cian Hallissey. There were few scores in the last ten minutes, as Templenoe continued to maintain their 3 point lead. Points were swapped through Sean Sheehan and Willie Hurley, and the final score of the match was scored from a free by Kieran Hurley for the visitors, to leave the full time score, Templenoe 0-18, St Pats 1-12

An Ghaeltacht 0-12, Templenoe 1-09.

Templenoe travelled to An Ghaeltacht in round 4 of the County Senior Football League. The match was played in difficult weather conditions with a strong breeze and misty conditions throughout.

Templenoe played with the wind for the 1st half, but struggled in the opening 10 minutes, and saw An Ghaeltacht opening up a 3 point lead. The visitors finally got on the score sheet with a point on 14 minutes, and quickly followed up with a second.

Templenoe did not utilise the wind advantage throughout the 1st half, and saw numerous long passes miss their target and run over the end line. Despite this Templenoe had a slender one point lead by the 25th minute, but An Ghaeltacht finished stronger, and went in at half time with a one point lead of An Ghaeltacht 0-06, Templenoe 0-05.

Templenoe faced a tough task for the 2nd half, and similar to the opening half, An Ghaeltacht got the opening scores. On the 40th minute mark the home side led on a scoreline of An Ghaeltacht 0-08, Templenoe 0-05. Templenoe pulled back a point, and started to raise their game coming into the last 15 minutes. A number of driving runs from the Templenoe half back line were beginning to yield results, but Templenoe were struggling to register scores against the wind. The defining moment of the match came when an attempt of a point dropped short. John Moriarity worked hard to secure possession for Templenoe, and the ball broke to Tadhg Morley who finished high to the net. This left the score on 50 minutes, An Ghaeltacht 0-09 Templenoe 1-07.

The home team quickly responded with a point, but Templenoe kept pushing for scores. Templenoe again restored their lead, but again saw An Ghaeltacht cancel it out with a point. More Templenoe pressure saw Cian Hallissey score Templenoe’s last point of the game, but with the last kick of the match, An Ghaeltacht registered a point to leave the match a draw, on a score of An Ghaeltacht 0-12, Templenoe 1-09.

Waterville / Dromid 1-13, Templenoe / Sneem / Derrynane 0-13.

The Templenoe / Sneem / Derrynane were unlucky to lose out this tightly contested county final played in beautiful conditions in Waterville GAA Grounds on Wednesday evening.

The home team were coached by the great Micko O'Dwyer, and assisted by the breeze opened up a four point lead halfway through the first half.. It took Templenoe / Sneem / Derrynane a while to settle, but they started coming into matters late into the 1st half. Half time score was Waterville / Dromid 0-07, Templenoe / Sneem / Derrynane 0-03.

Waterville / Dromid started quickly again in the 2nd half, and picked off two more points. Templenoe / Sneem / Derrynane, started to make use of the breeze and fought back into the match, and picked of a series of pointe to set up a very exiting finish.

With five minutes to go, both teams were level on 12 points apiece. The away side were looking more promising to score, but both teams swapped points again. Approaching the full time whistle, Templenoe / Sneem / Derrynane had a quick attack up the field break down, Waterville / Dromid swept the ball back up the field to their inside forward. The ball was chipped over the goalie for a goal, to leave Waterville victorious on a scoreline of Waterville / Dromid 1-13, Templenoe / Sneem / Derrynane 0-13.

Brosna 0-11, Templenoe 2-04

 

Brosna had a narrow win over a Templenoe side who struggled to score in this second round County Junior Football Championship match. The match was played on Sunday afternoon in an immaculate pitch, but with a very strong crosswind which didn’t favour either team.

Brosna had a very good start to the match, and after 20 minutes, led on a score of Brosna 0-04, Templenoe 0-00. Their scores coming from Tom McGoldrick, Adam Barry (2) and Timmy Finnegan. An individual effort from Sean Sheehan saw Templenoe finally get on the score sheet on 22 minutes.

Both teams struggled to score for the remainder of the half, until Templenoe scored two goals on the 30th minute from Brian Crowley and John Rice. Brosna responded with the last point of the half with the score, Brosna 0-05, Templenoe 2-01.

Brosna opened the 2nd half scoring with a free on the 35th minute, and ten minutes later scored again through Tom Fitzgerald. In this period Templenoe created plenty of opportunity’s, but kicked a stream of wide’s (17 in total through the game). With the match level coming into the last 10 minutes, the home side started to believe that they could win, and good forward play saw them push three points ahead through, Mike Finnegan, Tom McGoldrick and Tom Fitzgerald.

On the 54th minute, Killian Spillane opened Templenoe’s 2nd half account with a free. Brosna again responded through a Tom McGoldrick free to restore their three point lead a minute later. Templenoe kept trying and scored points through Stephen O’Sullivan and a Gavin Crowley effort that bounced over the bar.

With time running out, Templenoe had one last attack to try and snatch a draw, but could not work the ball up the field, leaving Brosna victorious on a score line of Brosna 0-11, Templenoe 2-04.

Templenoe 3-18, Brosna 0-09 

 

Templenoe had a comprehensive win over Brosna in Round 5 of the County Senior Football League. The match was played on Saturday evening in ideal conditions in Templenoe GAA Grounds.

Templenoe led from the start, and points from Adrian Spillane, Killian Spillane and Brian Crowley, were followed up with a goal from Cian Hallissey on ten minutes. Templenoe added another two scores through Shane Cremin and Killian Spillane, before Brosna registered their first score of the match from corner forward Timmy Finnegan.

Killian Spillane pointed his third score, and Brosna replied through points from Mike Finnegan and Tom McGoldrick with 25 minutes gone. The last three points came the way of the home team, leaving the half time score, Templenoe 1-09, Brosna 0-03.

Both teams got their first scores of the second half through frees. Templenoe scored quickly again through a well taken Adrian Spillane point and another Killian Spillane free. For the next ten minutes, Brosna formed a resurgence, and through winning a supply of ball in midfield, scored the next four points through Tom McGoldrick, Mike Finnegan and two from Timmy Finnegan.

Templenoe came back into the match, and some great work from Cian Hallissey saw the home team score the next three points. Templenoe led by 1-15 to 0-08 with ten minutes left.

Brosna got their last score through a long range point from Timmy Finnegan, but Templenoe kicked on with three further points. With time almost up John Moriarity finished two goals in the space of a minute to leave Templenoe victorious on a score of Templenoe 3-18, Brosna 0-09.
