Templenoe 1-09, Ardfert 0-10

Templenoe kicked off their 2014 league campaign with a narrow win over Ardfert, played in ideal conditions in Templenoe. The match was keenly contested with both sides giving their all. Ardfert got the opening point from a Damien Wallace free. Templenoe soon responded through a goal by Denis O Neill after some great work by Tadhg Morley. Templenoe added points from Cian Hallissey, Killian Spillane & Tadhg Morley leaving the score after 15 minutes Templenoe 1-03, Ardfert 0-01.

Ardfert managed to reduce the lead with three points from the boot of Damien Wallace. Then just before half time, an Adrian Spillane shot was deflected over the bar by Ardfert goalie Nicky O Sullivan. Half time score Templenoe 1-04, Ardfert 0-04.

Ardfert who were reduced to 14 men late in the first half had the better of the exchanges early in the second half. Frees were exchanged by the team through scores by Cian Hallissey and Damien Wallace. Damien Wallace hit another free for Ardfert before Tadhg Morley put three points between the teams with a score. Ardfert took over and got points from Damien Wallace (2) and wing back David Griffin (2) to take the lead with ten minutes to go.

Templenoe did not panic and were back on level terms with a Cian Hallissey free. Patrick Palmer sent a difficult free over the bar to regain the lead for Templenoe. In a frantic last five minutes, both teams pushed hard the score and there were many near misses including a shot from Patrick Palmer hitting the cross bar. The final score came to Templenoe through Gavin Crowley leaving Templenoe victorious on a score line of Templenoe 1-09, Ardfert 0-10

Templenoe proved to good for Kenmare in the Kenmare District Board Spillane Cup Final, played in damp conditions at Templenoe on Saturday evening.

Kenmare got the scoring underway with a free but Templenoe responded with points form Kieran McCarthy, John Rice, Padraig Doyle and Patrick Palmer. Kenmare followed with another free but Templenoe again responded with scores from John Rice and Denis O Neill to leave the half time score Templenoe 0-06, Kenmare 0-02

The first score of the second half went to Kenmare as Templenoe struggled to hit the target early in the second half. Patrick Palmer converted a long distant free and Templenoe followed with points from Daniel O Neill, Denis O Neill and John Rice. Both teams swapped scores and coming into the last five minutes John Rice struck a superb goal. Templenoe closed out the game with three more points to leave the final score Templenoe 1-14, Kenmare 0-04.

Kenmare District Board Chairman PJ McIntyre presented the Spillane Cup to Templenoe Captain Shane Cremin and the man of the match award was presented to Templenoe wing back Joseph Sheehan.

Annascaul 1-08, Templenoe 1-12

Templenoe earned two more points with a good win away to Annascaul played in ideal conditions last Sunday. Templenoe played with the wind in the 1st half and went ahead through Brian Crowley and Cian Hallissey before Annascaul kicked a free to open their account. However Templenoe's Patrick Palmer with 3 pts and one from Kieran McCarthy put Templenoe in the driving seat nearing half time. Just before the break Annascaul exchanged points with Brian Crowley and Sean Sheehan to leave the score Annascaul 0-03,  Templenoe 0-08.

Annascaul came out all guns blazing in the second half and drew level with a gaol and two points inside ten minutes. Two more scores from Annascaul put them in front for the first time. Then Templenoe drew level with Martin Reilly and Brian Crowley again on Target. Annascaul briefly retook the lead, before Brian Crowley leveled matters ad then with a free put Templenoe one ahead. Templenoe wrapped the match up wth a well taken goal from John Rice to leve the final score Annascaul 1-08, Templenoe 1-12

Templenoe 1-12, Dromid 2-10

Dromid held out for a one point victory, in an exciting match played in pleasant conditions in Templenoe on Saturday evening.

Templenoe had the better start, and scores from Adrian Spillane (2), Patrick Palmer and Gavin Crowley saw the home side open a three point lead after ten minutes. Dromid’s opening score was pointed by Gearoid O’Sullivan, but this period saw two great saves by the Dromid goalie, Dan Curran, to keep Templenoe Goalless.

Both teams swapped points, and on the 17th minute, a long ball found Declan O’Sullivan unmarked who rounded the goalie and finished to an empty net for Dromid’s opening goal. Templenoe responded quickly, and a well worked move resulted in a goal by Adrian Spillane to restore Templenoe’s lead. The score after 20 minutes was Templenoe 1-06, Dromid 1-02.

Gavin Crowley added another point for Templenoe, but Dromid kept in touch with scores from Thomas Curran and Declan O’Sullivan. The last score of the half came Templenoe’s way, leaving the half time score, Templenoe 1-08, Dromid 1-02

The opening score of the 2nd half came from a free by Declan O’Sullivan for Dromid. This period was notable for a dominant period of Templenoe play, but the home team kicked some bad wide’s. Brian Crowley registered Templenoe’s first score after the interval. Ten minutes into the half, Dromid started winning the breaks around midfield, and following a point from Dromid sub, Aidan O’Shea, the visiting team got a 2nd goal through midfielder, Denis Shine O’Sullivan. This goal levelled matters on the 42nd minute at Templenoe 1-09, Dromid 2-06.

Dromid kicked on from this point, and registered the next 4 points, through Shane O’Connor, Michael Sheehan, Denis O’Sullivan and Declan O’Sullivan. Coming into the last 10 minutes, Templenoe started coming into the match again. 3 points from frees were registered by the home team, and a frantic last few minutes saw Templenoe win a 45’ for the last kick of the match. The resulting shot didn’t hit the target, leaving Dromid victorious on a full time score of Templenoe 1-12, Dromid 2-10.
